Fit aerodynamics and wind buffeting

I own a 2010 Fit sport. It kinda bothers me how much side winds affect it even with good tires. The car already came with aero trim, how much good it does I don't know. Anyone here have any experience with air dams & etc. that might help?

My '09 Sport behaved like a sailboat in crosswinds. You just have to learn to tack to windward, matey! Seriously, it was just one of those things I put up with.

For the record, my '15 Fit is much better behaved in that regard.

Adding a Progress rear sway bar greatly helped our '08 GD Fit track better and stay more firmly planted in a straight line at higher speeds.

Now, that's interesting...wonder why?

Mine came with the sway bar. I'll have to check and see if everything's tight back there.

I got a book on auto aerodynamics, after reading it I came to the conclusion it's just as easy to do more harm than good if you don't have a wind tunnel.

thing is narrow, tall, soft suspension, and lightweight.. all recipe for crappy crosswind performance.

in contrast my golfs have no crosswind issue on the same windy day.. and there's really no big aero on the car. it's more to do with lower cog, suspension tuning, and weight of car.

Another vote for the sway bar to reduce body roll. And also for the Golf having the advantage of lower cg and better suspension tuning, but you can get some of that on a Fit with mild lowering springs. My car is significantly more stable with the sway bar and lower/stiffer suspension.

If your Fit has stock size tires, try 205/50R16's. They greatly improved my 09 Fit's stability in cross winds.

My Mom felt they improved her '11's highway manners, but that could have been partially just the new tire syndrome where everything seems better just because of the new rubber.

yep. it’s not like the car was screeching to the side of the road from crosswind.. the suspension the weight the shape are the problems.

After driving numerous types of vehicles over the past 50+ years, I know what sloppy steering fells like.

My Fit needed large steering corrections with the stock tires in heavy cross winds at highway speeds right off the showroom floor. It felt like it had the old style recirculating ball steering mechanism.
The steering requires only small corrections during the same driving conditions with the 205/50R16's.
4-wheel alignments, spin balances, and frequent tire pressure checks were done for both sets of tires.

in those 50yrs of driving, were you made aware the fit is only adjustable in the front and only toe?

Yep, I'm fully aware of that.
However, you're apparently not aware my Fit had alignment components installed to adjust the front caster/camber and the rear camber/toe.

I have five sets of wheels and tires for my 2017 Fit. OEM 15" tires on some Craigslist Borbett wheels, General Alitmax 195/60/15 snow tires on the OEM steel wheels, 16X7" Tire Rack TR brand wheels with 205/50/16 Bridgestone RE-71R, a set of Maxxam 16X7" wide with 205/50/16 BF Goodrich Rival S and a set of 16X7" OZ Ultraleggera that had BF Goodrich Comp 2's in a 205/45/16.

Regardless of the tire, the car bounces around like a pinball in farm country on a North/South 70mph highway at 75 mph with 15-20 mile an hour winds. Get by a semi truck and it's like the in car footage of NASCAR restrictor plate races. Sure the wider performance oriented tires are better, but only marginally.

It's a lightweight, narrow tall car that's shaped like a tail fin on a airplane. It's going to bounce around regardless of wheel and tire size
