Another wreck in the BOM

SO... after the last wreck with nearly $10,000 worth of damage I have been VERY cautious driving. Well ... I guess you can't avoid stupid people who are in a rush though .... I was on my way to work Sat morning and a mini van was turning on a road to the right hand side and i was in the left lane - Well a Buick LeSabre pulled out from the road the mini van was turning on RIGHT AS I DROVE BY... Needless to say I was T-boned...I even saw him and completely took my car into oncoming traffic and he still took out the back end of my car. So, the back passenger door, the panel behind it, and the tire and rim are trashed. I've decided being as I got the car June 1st and in less than 6 months I've had TWO car accidents .. I believe the car is jinxed and I no longer want it. I'm looking into trading it in now for a Civic EX. I just don't get though how you DON'T see a bright orange car coming downt the road?! And to make things worse; we're pretty sure the guy doesn't have insurance. He showed a roadside assistance card for "proof of insurance" but he's SAYING he does have insurance ... yeah,ok, well he got a citation for not having proof of it. But yes, thankfully I'm okay .. although that man hit where my son would have been sitting had he been in the car and then that man would not have been okay --- I can't stand people who just live in their little bubble and have no respect for the peoples space around them. Anyway ... Enough of the ranting --- Not sure when/if I'm going to get the car fixed. The dealer I work for is offering to fix it at their internal price if I trade it in... not sure what to do... Any opinions??

That just sucks!! I can't believe your misfortune.

I do have a question, since you, unfortunately, have the experience. How does the car's structure hold up to a crash?

Whether you decide to keep the Fit or get a Civic doesn't really matter in the real world. If a person is in their little bubble, they will be no matter what you are driving!!

well the car is not jinxed...i can see that getting a different car would make you feel better cause the bad experiences you have had in the FIT. Two accidents in 1 year is too much to deal with so i feel you on that. You will still have to watch out for the fools around you that dont know how to drive. With the accidents you have been through its tough to drive on the road now cause you worry more of getting hit again. I would feel the same way and go with another car, but accidents are really not avoidable...just as long as you come out living

2 accidents with major damage? I'd ditch the car ASAP but that's just my opinion.

I'd also go after this guy for compensation(insured or not) if he was at fault.

So I had the body shop at my work give an estimate on my car and they're saying (probably just from what they visually saw) 2400 in damage. My last accident the first estimate was 8800 i think plus we ended up ordering more parts afterwards.
Also, I can't get through finiance without a co-signer SO ... there goes the idea of getting a civic. I really want an SI Sedan anyway .. BUT realisticly speaking i'm only 20 .. Good things come in time. Guess I'm keeping the FIT.

Yeah, I'm feeling you too on the people not seeing a bright orange blob. I've had the car 6 months and there have been probably 5-6 times where people have almost switched lanes into me or have turned out in front of me when im coming at them. It's pretty ridiculous.

Sheesh, I'm really sorry about your misfortune. I really don't know what to say except that I hope everything turns out okay in the end. I'm glad you're okay as well, because who else would I talk to on myspace? just teasing.

I hate people w/ no insurance. They tend to suck at driving. I once got a fender bender cuz the guy hit me when I stopped at a stop sign (it was at a T intersection. The guy must have not even expected me to stop, probalby didn't even pass a permit test). and the guy made off w/o even talking to me after pulling over. the only explanation was no insurance, cuz the damage wasn't that big of a deal and nothing to be afraid of.

doesn't your own insurance cover this recent damage? Or do you have to prove this wasn't your fault?

When you say he got a citation, you mean police are now investigating him right? (sorry i don't know what 'citation' means)

It's good to hear that you are alright. I'm greatful your son was not in the car at the time as well. Primarily for his safety, but a part of me fears what you would have done to the fool that hit you . I hope it all turns out for the best, and I agree that you should sue the CR@P out of this jerk!

Shoot, stay away from southern california....you know those 12-20 MILLION illegal aliens in the country? More than half of them are here, filling the carpool lanes doing 50mph (in a 65mph zone), and cutting people off 3 lanes in a row to get there.........i'm still waiting for the day when an illegal wrecks my car **sigh**

Heh, I don't think the turning out in front of you is a matter of being seen. It's a matter of idiots going, "Oh, there's a small space between this car. I think it's enough for me to turn, so even though I'm at a stop, I'm going to get in front of this quickly accelerating car and make my turn, just because I can." It happens to me at least three times a day. Sometimes, these people cut the turn so close, I'm like three seconds away from a collision. Bah. Then, when you're waiting to make a left turn, sometimes this is the only way you can. It's not safe at all, though, and it's highly annoying.

So the police report is ready today and I'm going to pick it up as soon as i leave work for a break. That way I'm going to contact/stalk this guy until I get all the information I need. USAA is my insurance company and they've already told me they'll do the same but if he doesn't co-operate then they'll have to assume he doesn't have insurance which means I'll have to pay a $200 deductible to get the car fixed. GGGGrreaatt... I would think being as my last car accident was 10,000 worth of damage and this one is 2500 .. shouldnt the car be totalled? I only paid 16550 for the car and yet 12500 worth of damage has been done to the car ...It's great that cars are so repairable now-a-days but JEEZ ... isn't enough enough?

Oh and also .. .when I say ' citation ' it's an expensive ticket. I guess they dont call them tickets here? I don't know. The top of the paper (I got a citation for the last accident where the car went into a ditch) says " CITATION " and there's a fee or you go to court.
And I'm also afraid of what I would have done to the guy had my son been in the car also. He'd have been bleeding from the head and by the time the cops showed up I'd have been like " Wow, he hit his head REALLY hard on the steering wheel " ... HA ... That man ought to be the grateful one - Ignorant people ---

A few years ago I was rear-ended in my '88 Accord. I was stopped at a light. We pulled over & waited for a cop. The guy was from Columbia (so he said) and could NOT speak english. No ID & went to jail in handcuffs. The insurance company: Progressive-his. Could not find him so Progressive REFUSED to pay. Took over a year until they finally did. Last Christmas I was at KMart and some woman backed into my bumper & right light. Could NOT speak english; had a "license" that said she was "Puerto Rican" HA!! The car had children and another woman in it (did I say car... Chevy Z4 4X4) and the part that did all of the damage was a large trailer hitch. Both females on their (?) cell phone.
She tried to talk me into a setlment (cash) not to call the cops. I was hoping she would be hauled off to jail as well. Yeah call me a cold bastard...
She said she didn't hear me honk... I did a demo for the cop of the horn in my
Accord: LOUD Honda Element horn replacement: thinking of maybe putting these on my Fit!! She probably did not get a citation since it was in KMart parking log.

BTW Please turn your head and cough.... docjim2

uninsured motorists stink, which is why we are insured against them, but then bad drivers also stink even if they are insured. As for the issue of imigrants legal or not they are essential parts of the economy which we can't seem to figure out how to deal with so we just ignore the problems,or deal with them to our inconvenience. On the way back from phoenix last month picking up my fit my daughter bizarrely tangled herself in the rear seat belt. There i was on the side of the interstate trying to wave down a car (the belt had to be cut off and i had no knife having flown out to pick it up.End of story, after many good buddy truckers, and 2o minutes of fine anglos Passed me by w/out stopping it was three latinos from parts unknown who stopped to assist me.I told my daughter whatever people say about latin immigrant workers, she should remember all her life those were the people who stopped to help when we were in need and others passed us by.Truly sorry about your trouble glad you are well. The important thing as you know is that neither you or your son were pysically injured.
