Same company; we are just a lot smaller than we were before the economy tanked so they are moving everybody into one building.

Just checked out my new spot... it blows

Right now I have a nice window seat with a view of 5 hotel swimming pool, large private walls & pretty good airflow.

The new spot has another building wall about 2 feet over, I don't even know why there is a window! Low cut walls and is pretty ghey in general. There is even a freaking plotter like 10 feet from my desk.... sigh, stupid economy

 

finally the economy has hit us, round 1 of layoffs has happened in the past few days. I'm just hammering down on all of my accounts and surprisingly have increased my productivity. So hopefully I'm safe, there is no one else to do internet sales here who's as efficient and likable as me. Can I use likable? yes I think I can, sounds professional enough to me.

 

That sucks to hear man, just got to hold on a bit longer... oil is through the roof this week and if it keeps up it is going to be hoping around here soon!

 

Speak of the devil... they just let our lead document control guy go about 15 minutes ago.

So what you do is you take the specifications from the customers and
you bring them down to the software engineers?

TOM
That, that's right.

BOB PORTER
Well, then I gotta ask, then why can't the customers just take the
specifications directly to the software people, huh?

TOM
Well, uh, uh, uh, because, uh, engineers are not good at dealing with
customers.

BOB SLYDELL
You physically take the specs from the customer?

TOM
Well, no, my, my secretary does that, or, or the fax.

BOB SLYDELL
Ah.

BOB PORTER
Then you must physically bring them to the software people.

TOM
Well...no. Yeah, I mean, sometimes.

BOB SLYDELL
Well, what would you say… you do here?

TOM
Well, look, I already told you. I deal with the goddamn customers so
the engineers don't have to!! I have people skills!! I am good at dealing with people!!! Can't you understand that?!? WHAT THE HELL IS
WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!!!!!!!

Yeah this layoff stuff is still going on everywhere, a little bit slower than before.... I don't get it, oil is like 60$. You would think they would be freaking out trying to get jobs back on track.
