first oil change?

When I did my first oil change at 3000km, the oil looked darker than ink/soya sauce. Special oil, maybe? Special oil filter tho? It was a blue OEM filter that I took off.

When the oil is that dirty I wonder how good the oil does on cleaning, lubricating and cooling the engine.

After I did my first oil change the engine runs quieter and response quicker.

how about switching to synthitic? Are there great advantages to doing this? from my experence fro working on cars, it seems as though syn. oil messes up seals over time. Im not enterly sure, i would like to know before i do my first oil change.

I will use synthetic after 12000km I think. Right now I go up to 5500rpm or over sometimes with steady input on throttle, not jamming it right to the floor.

As I remember Ichi san from SPOON mentioned about not using synthetic until u have at least 10,000km and don't use those engine flush liquid even at high mileage.....

This is an age old discussion and I'm sure most of us subscribe to our own methods of madness. Personally I believe in changing the oil every 3-4k miles and not changing over to full synthetic at at least 9k miles.

I'm trying to go by the Fit's "maintenance minder" system, but I don't think I can bring myself to wait 7k or so between oil changes.

Most of you wont keep your car for more that 3-4 years so really who cares if you don't break it in properly. It can be some one elses problem. This is why I rarely by a used car. All of my cars have over a quarter of a million KM's on them except the Fit of coarse.

All I have bought is old civics, besides now of course. I can defiantly tell when a motor wasn’t broken in properly. I guess ill be one of the few (according to you) who keep there fit for a number of years. Not saying that you don’t care, but I have a bit more respect for my car and the possibility for a future owner. That’s good to know though about changing it over after 9k miles. I’m still not sure if I should even bother switching.

If I buy a used car I usually get a good deal and with that in mind I will usually factor in a rebuild. I know that I broke mine in properly and my previous car. For the Fit I'm switching to Full synthetic after 10K. I've seen the insides of motors with dino oil and synth. Even the blends are really good. In Canada you can get a really inexpencive full synthetic at Canadian Tire. Their Motor master is actually Shell. and the MS data sheets say it's a pretty good quality synthetic. It's about 1/3 the cost of Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec. ( I used to use both products)

I have 7600 Km. and minder shows 40%.

With my first oil change I will be insisting the dealer fill the
oil filter with oil b4 installing it. The few seconds b4 the filter
fills with oil could leave scuff marks on the main bearings b4
the oil pressure builds up. Over time this will cause loss of oil
pressure.

I did my first oil change at 1200KM. The next one will be around 7000-7500KM. I will also be doing a ATF service at that time. (Just to get any break-in metal out of there, just like the oil change)
