fuel consumption question

I am not sure I understand exactly how it works

how come I am getting 10.1 or 10.2 all the time in my instrument panel
you know what I am talking about right?
that trip pin that you push in
first shows the current milage in Km
then if you push in again, the trip counter display
if you push in one more time, its shows an average fuel consumption reading, am I correct?

I thought the car is rated at 7 or 8 or something like that for normal city driving
I don't speed up or do crazy acceleration at all, just normal driving habbit.

hmm... might need to have the dealer look at it...mine currently reads pretty accurate at 5.5-6.5 depending on which I'm driving more hwy or city. Are you on stock wheels or do you have a lot of extra weight in the car?

i drive like a grandmom, and mine shows an avg of 5.2 to 5.4 per 100 km, depending on how many lights i get through. I drive 85% city, 15% highway.

It really depends on how u drive. If you accelerate over 4 k rev each time, its not gonna get u great mileage. If you are not constant on ur throttle when you're rolling along, that's also not gonna get u great mileage.

Also, where you drive to also plays a roll with fuel economy. Elevation is a factor to consider as well, I know in Richmond, you can easily get good mileage, but Burnaby would be a different story. Just my .2 cents!

its because its flat in richmond. In burnaby and east vancouver, there're hills to negotiate and our fits do not like them. But having said that, I travel between richmond and burnaby at least twice a week.

Really, the location makes a difference?
I drop by at the dealership yesterday and the sales said I have to reset the trip counter then it will start a new reading again
and I tested it yesterday
I got 9.5
still seems high.

another thing is how many km did you guys get on a full tank of gas.
I driven 320km total since I pickup the car
90% city, 10% highway
and used 3/4 tank of gas

I drove 320km today mostly city driving since the day I bought it
and the gas meter is down to 1/4 tank.
wait I'm confused you drove 320k TODAY! and only used a 1/4 tank??

I typically get between 550-600km per tank that's with about 70%/30% hwy/city driving.

sorry, I put it wrong, my mistake
I mean I driven a total of 320km since I pickup the car
that is including today's travel distance.
and it used 3/4 tank of gas.
my driving pattern is 90% city and 10% highway

i get at least 600 km per tank 85% to 90% city driving. i'm at a little less than a 1/4 tank now and its gone 280 km. by half tank as shown by the guage (which in reality is less than half), I get about 360-380 km.

I would say that 320km for a full tank is horrible. You should definitely go check it out. I've never gotten less than 560 per tank since the car was new.

Do you have any mods on it?

my car is the plain basic sport model, no mod except for HID headlights
I don't think the HID will use more gas
I guess another factor is air-cond is on high all the time (summer time Vancouver is very hot)

yeah even with the air on fuel economy shouldn't suffer that bad....it may be time to talk to your dealer.

Yes, air con does kill the economy, but shouldn't be to the extend of your numbers. I do not run air con so i constantly have all 4 windows rolled down.

I can't tell yet because I just fill up 3 days ago.
What I recall is I can get 360km on my first tank of gas.
the average consumption meter reading is like 8 now.
I think its better, I had a 10 before.

still think you should go see the dealer...IMO you really shouldn't be reading higher than 7.5ltr/100km unless you're redlining it from light to light...lol

8 is not completely bad. I've seen 7 sth on the GE automatics. Give it a couple more tanks and see if it drops. Try going easy on the AC and the gas pedal. Too much stop and go traffic (garden city and no 3 in richmond) also kills the economy and so do hills and repeatedly depressing the pedal and letting go to maintain speed.

Take a look on fuelly to see what people are getting. I just started using it recently myself.

Fuelly | Share and Compare Your MPG

Average seems to be 7L/100k for fits

fuel mileage is so dependent on driving style and the amount of traffic, whether you take many short trips, etc.

Driving in Vancouver during my daily commutes, I get just below 8L/100km. On the highway, I drop to about 5L/100km. However, since I do mainly city driving, my average is around 7.5 - 7.9L/100km.
