Curry Honda in Atlanta is decent
Hey guys, I started feeling the gas crunch a little too much lately so I traded my wife's 2007 Mazda CX-7 GT with all the bells and whistles for a 2007 Honda Fit Sport Manual in Blaze orange. Yes I admit, its a step down from comfort and convenience but we'll be nearly tripling our mileage.
Anyhow, on to the dealer story. Mind you, it's not quite over as they havent recieved the car yet (supposed to be in Monday). The first few minutes of my visit to Curry Honda in Atlanta were filled with a pushy salesman trying to put me in everything I glanced at. I was very stern that I was only looking for a Fit Sport in manual transmission in either white or orange. The had none on the lot so they asked me to "negotiate the numbers and then they would get me the car.
We went inside and sat down to start the war. I should have known it was going to be a long night when the salesperson told me that they were marking 2-3,000 above MSRP on all the fits. Anyhow, I told him that I wont pay a penny over MSRP (its a hot car right now). After three rounds with the finance manager, we agreed on....not a penny over MSRP. Next was the trade negotiations. He asked what I thought it was worth and I declined to respond. The car went through the "white rabbit" test and I was given a quote of 20,150. I smiled and preceeded to stand up.
The salesperson told me they may be able to do better. I sat back down and told him I want exactly what KBB says its worth in good condition. After 2 more trips to the finance manager, I was given just under 24,000 for the Mazda. I know I got hit on the Mazda for trading so early but I ended up breaking even due to a lemon-law claim settlement straight from Mazda so that covered the negative equity.
Basically, the dealer gave me everything I wanted in the deal plus I talked him into "buying down" my interest rate that Honda threw at me. Honda gave me a 6.5x and the dealer bought it down to a 5.99 at the dealers expense. The staff was slightly pushy but overall respectful. I guess you just gotta be a firm hand.
Anyway, I'm excited for the car and I'm glad to be a part of the community. I have lots of plans for this car as its my new project car. I also have a modified Toyota Solara that's my baby but I've been a Honda guy for the majority of my driving time.
