(Long story, but if you simply want a dealer recommendation, skip to the end)
A couple of hiccups, but success in the end!
Walked in a couple of months ago, just for a test-drive. Could have bought it (white Sport Auto) off the lot, but waited.
So last week, I go in on Wednesday (8/2/2006) and scope out a silver Sport Auto. The guy tells me it's available to buy. I take it for a nice, long test drive (alone), but when I get back, a manager is waiting for me... apparently, the sales guy made a mistake and it's not for sale after all. I feel bad for the guy who ende up buying it... it had 4 miles on it, and I put 15 more on it, thinking it would be mine anyway. The manager informs me that it will be at least six weeks before I'd have a car. Figuring this is typical, I give them my info and leave to await my turn on the list.
I get home and the sales guy calls me. Apparently, there's a silver Sport Auto available, that's coming in two days. "Yeah... I want it."
Two days later, I call the sales guy, and he's totally stalling. That afternoon, I drag the two kids (1 and 3 years old) in the wife's '06 Volvo XC90 to the dealership, and find out that I was duped for a second time... the car was already sold. The sales guy runs in and grabs a different guy, who seems to have a much better handle on things. He finds a shipping-list of sorts, and guarantees me a car the following week... pick a color: Blaze Orange Metallic, or Black? I choose B.O.M.
That was one week ago. How does the story end? As they say, "Stan's the man." B.O.M. in da house, yesterday morning.
If you're in the DC area, call Stan Fry at Honda of Tysons Corner. He's a no bullsh*t kind of guy who will get your Fit for you. The dealers in the Tysons area are all high-volume, which means they usually get a larger allocation of cars than lower-volume dealerships.
