Any other Kansas City fit owners here?
Congratulations! It is very fun to drive. That is odd that the shades of red appear different. My first instinct was that it was the Base/Sport difference, but since they are both Sports I have no explanation. In my experience the first few tanks didn't get the best mileage. After that though, the mileage definitely improved. So keep that in mind with your first few tanks.
I need to get that California Duster but I only park in a Carport and the dust accumulates on it rapidly in the constant Kansas wind. Hope you don't have any paint issues either, I'm still looking good on mine but keeping my fingers crossed still. Enjoy the Fit and keep this forum updated on any add-ons you decide on.

I got about 25mpg on this first 3/4 tank. It cost $14 to fill up (from 3/4 empty) which is about $10 less than the CR-V, also at 3/4 tank). I drove for 9 days til this point. In the CR-V, I filled up about every 7 days. So, two more days, less money, and hopefully the mileage will improve as well!!!
I must be nervous driving it because I have had 4 very close calls to having an accident!! Not just fender benders either; real crashes. What's up with that?

People are probably being distracted from driving when they see your red Fit. The color catches their eye and then the car keeps their attention. They are checking the car out and forget how to drive. I noticed some of that too for a while, but it hasn't happened in a long time which leads me to believe it was me.
The gas mileage should go up so I wouldn't worry about it. My first tank was 27 mpg and now my average is 31 mpg while my best tank is 38 mpg. You just gotta break it in and makes sure everything is nice and lubricated.

On my second tank. From the needle/Trip A I think my mileage is improving.
I washed it in the driveway this past weekend. I'm too scared to go to a car wash. So far I don't see any paint issues. Hope that holds true.
At a local trade show I bought a Super Shammy. It did a really good job. I didn't rub hard though. I washed and dried with the same one. Here is a link:

Probably over priced, but I actually like this product. (I paid $20 for 6 big ones. You can cut them smaller. Never put them in the dryer).
I also washed a sweater and rolled it in this. Sucked out a lot of water - more than a regular towel.

I'm in Omaha so I'm not too far from you KC people. I just got my MR Fit Sport AT yesterday and I'm loving it. Let me know if you guys ever have a meet and I'll try and come down.
Also, are any of you selling your base Fit steel wheels (with or without tires) or your Fit Sport wheels?
Thanks,
Todd

I'm in Hutchinson where we just got a trace of snow early this morning. However, I was in Wichita yesterday morning to pick up my new Fit from Scholfield's. I'd hoped to get in and out before the weather rolled in, but I was pelted with ice from the moment I left the dealership until I was half-way home. Not only was I driving the car for the first time and driving it on ice, but I ran into a stretch of road construction that included a lot of large, marked bumps in the road. I couldn't have imagined worst circumstances to take delivery of a new car.
In a way, I guess it was a good experience for me because it forced me to get over my two worst fears, right off the bat. My first fear was driving on icy roads (so far, no problems) and the other big fear was scraping my front end (so far, taking it slow and easy has worked just fine.)
I hope you've seen the worst of your storm. Let us know how it went with the Fit.

Last night I drove home through work in about 4 to 6 inches of snow and I was fine. I took side streets to avoid the heavy and very slow traffic when I could. Those side streets were almost untouched. It was all ice the day before and I was fine on that too.
This morning there was about 6 or a little more inches of snow on my driveway and that wasn't a problem. I would guess that 12" would be a problem with the front lip.

I drove home from work yesterday after I posted and I took city streets instead of I-135. The Fit did fine in about 7 inches that I was driving in. It's just like any other FWD car if not better. Slow acceleration prevents spinning the tires when starting from a stop. I noticed on turns that the tires gripped pretty well as long as I wasn't going too fast. I don't think there is a need for winter tires unless you plan on driving on snow ALL winter. The all-weather tires are more than adequate for a midwest winter.
While no cars were around, and in parking lots, the Fit is fun to slide around in. Once the front tires break traction, it slides exactly where you want it to and it is really easy to stop sliding if you think you are going to lose control. The ABS works normally in the snow and I could feel when it was about to activate so its easy to judge whether you can hit the brakes a little harder or not if needed. In all, the Fit is solid in the snow and fun when you want it to be.

Thanks for putting your Fit to the test in an icy parking lot and describing the experience.
Now, if I start to slide, I'll stay calm by reminding myself that the Fit slides where I want it to go and that I shouldn't shy away from applying some brake when I need to. Maybe the next time we get some ice, I'll copy you and find an empty parking lot to practice in.

Based on it I'm going to wait on snow tires. I might get a dedicated set later once I figure out my summer wheel/tire situation and the all seasons become worn.
