R.I.P. Decals

I don't know about you guys but I see these things at the back windshield of cars everyday at least once and I really don't get it. In fact, I find it extremely tacky. Other than that I don't know what else to think? Haven't we all lost a loved one?

Me - "oh shit, this decal is in loving memory of Ernesto Gomez from 1989-2007.......dang, see you at the crossroads guy i never knew"

I don't know, maybe I'm a just bitch (as stated behind my back by several co-workers and a friend or two) but I at least want to understand the mentality of putting one of things at the back of your car. I'm thinking it's a Mexican thing because the majority of the names resemble a Mexican surname so maybe it's a cultural thing? I'm not sure on that one because I never noticed it until I resided here in Northern California. Do some of you have one of those or are thinking of getting one and care to explain? I'll still think they're tacky, but I want to at least understand this ghetto phenomenon......or maybe I'm just crazy that I don't have one at the back of my car to let people know that I lost someone I loved.

people do that up here all the time. best part is its always on the back of some piece of shit broke down car. some 97 ford explorer all dented up with 4 different rims and smashed tail lights, tint peeling off the winows and it says "in loving memory of..."

Never seen any of those decals up here yet. That is crazy though why you'd want to broadcast that on your car.

Meh I think its semi-lame. I'll probably let it slide if the person just passed and they are still mourning. But if the dates on there are from years back (like the pic), sorry, LAME. Time to move on with your life, and if you can't, then time to seek therapy because you have mental issues about not being able to deal with reality and the following concept:

Shit happens, sometimes things work, sometimes they dont, it sucks, life's not fair, never was never will be, it's over, move on.

based on personal experience, it's usually for a person who died in a car accident most likely drunk driving. a friend of mine died like that and one of our friends made these for everyone at the funeral. i never put it on tho. it's a trip. when you're young to lose a friend like that who you just saw alive. it's a fukcin trip. but he was a dumbass, so... still sucks. killed another friend in the car with him too. drove off a cliff in the rain on the way home from a party. damn, i haven't thought about it since it happened. i moved to vegas like the week after. never talked to any of those fools again. oh well. i needed to get away from that shit anyways. weird. reminds me of a shirt i saw today from jamaica that said, "why drink and drive, when you can smoke and fly"

No offense but it is a mexi thing. I have a mexican sounding name (am Spanish=european=white) and a commonly mexican owned car (Avenger) and all my friends, like to make fun by telling me to put my name in huge letters on the back window

It is just a way to express a persons grief at losing someone that they loved. I see them all the time around here and it is never on any specific type of vehicle. I would not put one on my car but if it makes someone
handle their loss easier and keep that persons memory alive, more power to them.
