the olympic torch controversy. opinions?

the olympic torch is going through san francisco today and driving downtown is absolutely insane right now. i think its great that people are allowed to voice their opinions through protest, but when does it go too far? the olympic games are meant to bring the world together. not seperate it. the reason the torch is making its way through san francisco is because we have a very large chinese population here. but we also have a high number of liberal douchebags that feel the need to protest anything and everything. ive asked a few of my chinese friends what they think about the whole situation and they could care less. i want some opinions from everyone else on the subject.

i think its wrong to pressure a nation to be civil with someone (the dali llama) that they view in the same light that americans view bin laden (in the sense that he is a national threat). this is china's introduction to the world as a superpower and they are spending more money than anyone ever has in history on these olympic games. they deserve some respect in their own decision making.

the olympic torch is being protested everywhere it is taken because china wont free tibet. there are talks of entire nations boycotting the games. in san francisco, people love to protest. but its happening everywhere. they had to cut the torch run short in london and france because of protesters.

I am definitely not up with what is going on, but I am pretty sure that it has to do with China's view on human rights in how it controls Tibet.

With that said, I don't think that the Olympic torch has anything to do with it. Protest all you want, but leave the damn torch alone. It is an honor for these individuals to represent their country and accomplishments by carrying the torch. RESPECT THAT!

Human rights violation is a terrible thing. The retards protesting however, need to protest on their own time, IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. Sorry but I don't buy protesting from the comfort of another country. I see that as being a coward. You don't like how things are, go and change it. Don't ask for pity from others, its your contry, not theirs. Yes I know its dangerous, but hey, nothing in life is easy, if you aren't willing to risk it all, then you should just shut your mouth and quit asking others to fight your battles.

My two cents.

It's not to free Tibet only it's because the Chinese invaded and stole the country from the Tibetans in the first place and they want their country back.

And wow the dali llama "a terrorist" isn't that just following the commies propaganda. Everybody except the Chinese know the Dali lama is one of the most peaceful men in the world and they just hate him because he is so peaceful and he tells the truth about what is happening over there.

It's a real shame that you got inconvenienced by the traffic. Put yourself in the Tibetans place, getting beat, put in jail, thrown out of your house with no payment and forced to move out into "The boonies" for just being a Tibetan and the Chinese want your house. Getting stuck in traffic is just a little tiny bit less to be concerned about compared to what the Tibetans have to deal with everyday cut them some slack.

no, i am well aware of the suffering and anguish in other countries and i can sympathize. i am very grateful for what i have and how i live. i wasnt complaining about the traffic, i was just making an observation

every single civilization on the face of the earth has been invaded or overruled or enslaved at one point or another. it is deff. screwed up but it is the way of the world. we will always be separated by the "haves" and the "have nots". the haves try to maintain control and power at all costs. i am looking down upon these protestors because half of the people you see in the crowd are clueless to the situation. they have chosen a side without being informed. i try to stay impartial until i have gathered enough info to make a decision and choose a side. but i will never be right or wrong in how i feel. i dont make a decision because madonna says thats what he believes in.

haha dont take this the wrong way claymore, but i always took you for a "might makes right" kind of guy.

Nope I'm a supporter of "Right is Right" kind of guy. I have put my life on the line for the cause of Laotian Hmong, Burmese Karen, and Afghans when they were fighting the Soviets. Not a Giant strong group among them only Buddhists, Christians and Islamic followers I'm a non-denominational bleeding heart when it comes to the little people that need help. Notice they were all trying to escape the yoke of communism. Kill a commie for mommy kind of guy.
