Thumbs up Great movie for the L.A. kids on the forums

Who don't know any of the history of the area before they were born.

"Gangster Squad" made in 2012 and now on Cinemax stars Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Nick Nolte in the story of the L.A.P.D.'s battle against mobster Mickey Cohen beginning in 1949 and continuing for several years.

Chief Wm. Parker set up a squad of WWII vets to wage guerilla warfare on the Cohen gang who controlled organized crime in the L.A. area just after WWII. The characters in the movie are for the most part real people. Chief Parker's Chief Aide and driver was Darryl Gates who became Police Chief decades later.

This is a great story, and if you were a kid during the '50s in New York, Philly, Chicago, Las Vegas or other organized crime capitals in the U.S., you have a similar history of local law enforcement's efforts against organized crime. There are also movies relating to your own childhood neighborhoods.

I was born in L.A. in 1949 and found the things in the daily newspapers that my parents read while I was growing up to be extremely interesting. My father was a B-17 bomber pilot, and POW in a German prison camp during WWII. It is strange for me to imagine their feelings while reading about the L.A.P.D. vs. organized crime after their own struggles during the war.

The 1940's were a weird time in So. Cal. I had an uncle who was a WWII Navy Vet who took part in the "Zoot Suit Wars" in L.A. In his later life, he felt guilty about carrying a billy club rolled up in his Navy uniform collar for use in beating up "Zoot Suiters" in L.A. and Long Beach, CA, and in later life went out of his way to help Hispanics in any way that he could.

So, if you have any interest in true organized crime/police history in L.A. that brought about the changes in law enforcement that you actually grew up with, see this movie.

Now, the member of these forums who pretends to have been a Special Ops Marine fighter in the Viet Nam era, pretends to have been a Police Detective, and pretends to now be some kind of spy and I.T. warfare specialist will probably not be able to prevent himself from commenting on this post, or at least adding another lie about me on his private forum. Be my guest Johnny. Make even more of a fool of yourself.
