$20 fine for driving and using your cellphone
This really bugs me to no end! They are thinking of increasing the fine of using your cellphone while driving here in California. My question is, how did you guys arrive at $20 fine for this infraction??????? You guys should not be writing the laws!!!!!
Many of you seen this video of a teen driver drifting into oncoming traffic and colliding into a fireball. Fortunately he collided with a semi. I have yet to find what the kid saids happened here. My bet is he was on his phone!
Anyone can find anything on why he drifted to oncoming traffic, I'd very much like to know.
(Thanks for allowing me to rant.)

Jeez $20 is like a slap on the wrist. In Ontario Canada they recently raised the fines again to up to $1000 fine 3 demerit points and a 3day licence suspension. Even with that I still see people on there phones daily.

Just to chime in and pile on....
That fine is poor.
The whole concept behind fines and penalties in this case, is to be a deterrent to the behavior involved.
If someone is apt to use their cell phone while driving...BAD DANGEROUS IDEA, a $20 fine is hardly a deterrent. In fact? It may even encourage the behavior, as violators could rest easy, knowing even if they get caught..the fine is less than the cost of going to the movies.
They should rethink the fine.

I was looking at parking tickets in the city where I live and it far cheaper getting a ticket for using a cellphone than any version of parking ticket!
BTW what's more dangerous, parking illegally or cellphone use?
