Maybe a Fit competitor?

Maybe a Fit competitor?
Just read about a road test of the 2007 Suzuki SX4. I'm not sure if this is considered a competitor of the Fit, as it's a 4 wheel drive SUV type, altho it is pretty small. Ran 16.8 at 83 MPH in 1/4 mile, but mileage is only 28 hwy. The test is at www.mpt.org/motorweek.

I almost bought one because I couldn't find a Fit. The Suzuki dealership gave me one for the day to drive! Luckily I was able to get a Fit Sport that was coming in that next week without a deposit on it(I went with the 5AT, but wanted a 5MT).
The SX4 is a nice car. My main reasons for buying the Fit over it were Honda reliability, MUCH better gas mileage and the magic seat. Better for dog and bike hauling duties.
Some things I didn't like about the SX4 were some quality issues. I had trouble starting it one time during the night I drove it around (had to try 5-6 times). The real world gas mileage is worse than 28 from what I've read/observed. Overall fit and finish on the Suzuki didn't seem as good as my Fit.
AWD is nice though...especially in that price range you really can't find something like the SX4.

Take a look at this thread. There has been a discussion along the line you are suggesting:

I personally do not think of SX4 as a Fit competitor. But I do find the Suzuki rather attractive (I test-drove one and liked it a lot), and it may come up as a contender to us in a couple of years when our Subaru Forester reaches its replacement age.
If you desire an AWD vehicle, the base SX4 is incredibly affordable, not much different from the Fit Sport. So, yes, I would say it could be a competitor to the Fit in that kind of context.
Actually, what I would love to have is an AWD Fit which is available in Japan. I rented one in Japan for a day, and it performed great.
