fit vs uzuki sx4
fit vs uzuki sx4
So anyone test drive the sx4 and the fit and choose the fit? I no the sx4 has worse gas millage but it doesn't seem that bad when you go to the 2008 fit gas millage ratings, not to mention the AWD on the sx4*? So opinions, why got fit instead?:D
Wow the Aerio is a classic now I guess.
$15K for a little hatchback with AWD, not bad. 2.0L 143hp/136tq, 2904 lbs, 23/28 for the base manual.
Saith Edmunds (from 2007 Suzuki SX4 Review - Edmunds.com), "With that in mind, we think the majority of buyers will be better off in the Fit, our top choice for this segment. But the SX4's appeal is apparent."

My cousin got a Blue SX4 the same month I got my VBP Fit. It's a nice car but I went with the Fit due to mpg. I am currently averaging about 31-32mpg on my Fit, he is getting about 25mpg on his SX4. Also I already have a Mitsu Montero so I don't need another 4x4. So the question for you would be what do you prefer? Because they are both nice cars...
I was seriously considering the SX4. I even got a test drive in a MT version. It had better power than the fit and felt very capable and substancial on the freeway. After researching a bit I found that the awd is not full time though. It switches to fwd after 30mph regardless of which mode you are in. Supposedly it's missing a center diff to handle awd at speed. Without the advantage of full-time awd, it was easy to pick the fit instead. Better looking, better price, better mpg, better interior, better cargo space, better fit! That SX4 rally concept looks cool as heck though!!
The one things that bugs me about the fit right now is its really hard to know what the true MPG is because of the odometer issues:( I know its still higher but the questions is by how much? also i like the seat layout better on the fit but the sx4 actually has more cubic feet of cargo inside I think at this point i may just have to test drive both and see. More opinions appreciated...
PS sorry about the typo in the title.:D

Are you sure about the SX4 having more cargo cubic feet? I though Edmunds said ~20 cubic feet. It looks small from their photos. I'd only buy the SX4 if I had a need for cheap 4 wheel drive. It's got more HP but it also weighs more and more drag on the transmission from awd.

i owned this suzuki

it was what i owned before the fit, she had a 2 liter dohc and ran beautifully with a cai and custom exhaust. than the water pump decided to dismantel itself and a piece stripped the timing belt. you know the story from there.
i didnt have to worry realy the dealership was real nice about the warrenty work, but it was corporate where i budded heads. the dealership only replaced what corporate told them to replace. they never looked at the bottom end to see if there was any damage, i tried to hassle it but decided to turn away from small time imports.
the things ive learned about owning the car is that suzuki doesnt really make half of their line up most of the cars are gm based. this suzuki reno was a chevy up in canada, a buick in europe and i believe dawoo overseas. so who knows the quality craftmenship in the zukis. if i remember most of the cars heartbeats were made in australia, but it was assembled in korea.
but anyways yes i test drove the sx4 and my responce, well if suzuki did what they do with there two wheel vehicles to there 4 wheeled i might go back in the future, but since then its been honda and toyo.

(That pic is even too big for my 1920x1200 screen...)
Edmunds (about SX4) - "With the rear seat stowed, 38 cubic feet of cargo room is available."
Edmunds (about Fit) - "Folding the rear seat flat provides 41.9 cubic feet of cargo capacity."

Towards the end is were they talk about the more cargo space:

My wife bought the Aerio SX4 last year and turned out to be a lemon. The dealership offered her a Suzuki Sedan. She drove for about three months then had transmission problems. Both cars brand new! She then settled for the Yaris liftback. No problems for a year now except her monthly payments are higher due to getting rid of her Suzukis without paying them off.
alright pokems another fit yaris couple.
i feel your pain on the suSUCKis they arent good quality, they should just stick to selling bikes their cars are giving them a bad name.

The funny thing is I own a Suzuki motorcycle
but there's no way I'd buy one of their cars. I
still can't forget when they first imported their
first cars here, that were unrefined tin boxes.
Since then they've only improved so much while
reliability and refinement still aren't one of their
better virtues. I'm surprised how the other
Japanese motorcycle manufacturer is still way
ahead of them in the automobile department.

I test drove both. I was going to buy the SX-4 before I test drove the Fit. I enjoyed driving SX-4, but it didn't feel as responsive, and the steering wasn't as precise as the Fit. When we got into the Fit and took it on some winding back roads I just had a blast. The Fit was much more nimble and responsive and I didn't really need the AWD.
My wife still likes them (SX-4) and we will probably give them another look when her car dies if they keep making them.
