Bought a 2008 xD today!
Yipes, VTTI-i engine. I remember having one of those. Is Toyota still using the belt to run their variable timing? It felt strong at lower RPM, but kinda crappy at higher because of the work involved in moving the pulley system. Also, if the air inlet is exposed openly, beware that rocks and maybe leaves will fly towards your air filter. You should buy your mom some nice R16 wheels cuz those stock wheels are hurting my eyes.
I agree too. The car has an odd shape to it. It doesn't look smooth. It looks kinda bumpy, like objects are trying sticking out of it.
I personally think that the xD is one of the ugliest cars of 2008, the Fit being one of the best looking, in the price bracket anyway
i agree. to me it looks kinda like the xb and xa merged together.
i hear good things about the xD, but the exterior is so busy to me... i like 'em plain and boring i guess.
the dude who said scion's were good for about 4 years... i think they're just "growing" the cars with the initial crowd. they'll be like 4000lbs avalon-like cars before ya know it. :p

The fit and xD IMO are 2 totally different cars.
The Fit is a clean car inside and out with quality materials and with everything being thought out and more like a car.
The xD is kinda goofy IMO. The gauges are in the middle, the outside looks like it was slapped together from different cars and then dipped into toxic waste and banged with a hammer and deformed.
The Fit uses a 1.5 for fuel economy, cant say that about the xD's 2.4 liter engine.
I like the new xB, but the xD is a mistake, although I see people driving them, its not the "Generation Y" kids that they are marketed towards.
Honda FTMFW!!1!
EDIT: Im a tard lol confused the gauges and engines between the xB and xD.

classic!:D
i will say this though, the materials used on the new xd are nice, and put the new corolla and matrix to shame. (i didn't want to belive the cheap interior thing, but its true.:( )
it'd be nice if honda would give us a motor of this size in the fit, even at the expense of gas.

I cross-shopped the Fit and xD as well and I was actually leaning heavily towards the xD...until I test drove them both.
The xD has more power and it's quite noticeable but as was mentioned, the seat height was really uncomfortable for me, I just could not get comfortable. The rear blind spots due to the huge, wide C-pillars was scary, I could easily see a whole 18-wheeler getting lost back there. Terrible. On top of that the handling felt like an SUV compared to the nimble Fit.
The fringe benefits turned out to be that the Fit also has a more flexible and roomier interior and an interior that doesn't look like it was designed by a Japanese teenager on LSD.

oh man, you guys are gonna hate me, but if i had known scion was coming out with the xD, i would have waited and bought it instead of the fit. i actually think it's a really cool looking car, it has more power, and come on, that gauge setup is pretty cool. unfortunately i didn't know scion was releasing a new car, and i sure as hell wasn't buying the ugly xA. don't get me wrong, i love my Fit, but i think the xD has much more potential.
Go test drive an xD like I did and you'll realize how wrong you are. Seriously. I love Toyota, I've had at least 5 or 6 of them and I had a Scion xB (1st gen) and loved it but the Fit is a better car in every way than the xD. The only advantage the xD has is a little extra torque, thats it and it really isn't worth everything else that you lose to get it. I was 90% sold on the xD based on its specs until I drove it versus the Fit. No comparison honestly. This is my first Honda and I am amazed at how much better it is than the Yaris or the Xd or any small Toyota I've driven.
