Honda Accord Brake Light Indicator

Recently, I've been driving my wife's 2002 Honda Accord EX 4cyl auto. This thing is great just to get in and go .. until I get my Fit.

But I've been noticing the Brake indicator on the dash is staying lit after you start the motor and take off. And it may stay on for 5 mins or up to 40 miles. Then, it just goes away. Never do you feel a drag on the motor. Stopping and starting usually doesn't make it go away. Pulling up the e-brake when parked and then letting it go doesn't make it stop either.

I notice it coming on mostly on rainy days or when the dew is heavy. Other mornings, not as much.

So my wife broke out the manual the other night. Said the brake fluid might be low, and this is an indicator of that.

This morning I went to check it and noticed there are 2 wires coming out of the cap, a monitor I guess. But I looked at the reservoir and it seemed high enough.

For now, I guess I'll just keep an eye on it...

Any suggestions besides "take it to Honda or a shop?"

You're probably about due for a brake pad change. The other possibility is that the sensor is going bad.

Brake pad change is possible. I want to say that was done last year... before the tires... or maybe it was longer ago.

The grounding wire on the ebrake could be shorting out if you or your wife has been messing around with anything nearby it... just a thought.

i work at an acura dealer and this happens to a lot of cls and tls similar to your accord.. theres a foam float in the brake master, it saturates with fluid and makes the car think it has low brake fluid when the car is cold. just buy a new float and screen and make sure theres clean brake fluid in the reservoir.

Thanks for the advice guys... I'm still looking into it.

But right now it's too hot to do anything with it. I'll probably do it some night this week!
