Honda Fit Sport .vs. Volkswagen GTI (2006+)
Honda Fit Sport .vs. Volkswagen GTI (2006+)
Ok, I know they are totally different cars engine wise..but both sporty hatchbacks with the GTI being slightly more expensive unless buying used then almost the same as a new fit...
I fell in love with the GTI a year ago and I still love that car but I LOVE the fit too! If the GTI was a diesel, it'd be a no brainer for me, THE GTI! but Im asking you guys which would you pick of the two cars if they cost exactly the same...
Im sure people with say Fit being this is a honda forum or maybe the GTI because it's turbo?
Anyways, Let er' rip and lets hear your opinions! ***EDIT*** For those of you that don't know about the GTI's, they also come in a 4 door too!

if it came with a diesel is wouldn't be a GTI.
As for which... I work for VW, I could get a new or used GTI for a healthy discount, but I prefer having a car that actually works, fo the Fit was a no brainer.

how often do you hear about having to put a cam in an engine casue the fuel pump decided to eat it... literally LOL
Reliable VW is like an oxymoron, at least with the crap they've putt out for the past 10 years.
On thing has always got me about the GTI, it comes with a 2.0 liter direct injection turbocharged engine.... making a whopping 200 hp and 207 ft/lbs of torque. That is pathetic, hell even GM makes them look bad. GM also has a 2.0 liter direct injection turbo motor... that puts down 60 hp more then the VW. The GTI is no question about it the nicer of the 2 cars but that's about all it has going for it, it heavier, its damn near twice the price new, there's less cargo room, it need premium, they burn excessive oil, they have alot more maintenance, they are alot more expensive to maintain, they get lower MPG, insurance is alot more.

I wouldn't buy a used German car. I love the GTI though. I was looking at it before the Fit, but price was way out of my range. The best part of it was the paddle shifters on the Auto. Blows away the Fit's paddle shifters by a long shot. When you hit the paddle, it shifts right away, no lag. I heard it's because there's a double clutch gearbox or something.
Anyway, I'd still go with the Fit. Great gas mileage, and in the long run will outlast the GTi and cost you less to fix if anything does go wrong. More practical.

Honda rules when it comes to compact cars. They last forever and get great gas mileage. Once you take something apart and put it back together you will appreciate how well the car was built.
I say buy the Fit and put the extra money towards mods.

The Fit's automatic trans is just that, an automatic trans. The shifts are going to lag no matter what you do. The paddle shifters are no different then starting in L and manulaly moving up to 2 and 3 etc (not sure if the Fit even has those labeled as thatbut you all know what I mean). The GTI has a DSG trans, its a completely different animal. The DSG is like 2 manual transmissions inside 1 case that's all controlled electronically. Odd gears are on 1 shaft and even gears on the other.... so when your driving in 3rd gear the trans has already preselected 2nd and 4th gear on the other shaft, the reason it shifts so fast is you hit the paddle (lets say up) and its actually starts going into 4th gear while its still coming out of 3rd. It doesn't have to shift out of gear then line up the next gear and shift into gear, its all in done in.... what .2 seconds I believe?
Huh. That surprises me. It wasn't that way a couple years ago.
A contractor I know had a VW Passat that had its right rear suspension collapse somehow at 26k miles and they wouldn't cover it. Cost him a fortune.
VWs have the softest oil pan ever... Do NOT overtighten that plug!

I know that the Fit will most likely have less problems than the GTI... but My sister has had 2 1999+ bugs, both diesel and diesel engines do last longer but she's driving one now with over 170,000 miles on it and the only problem she's had is the right window wouldnt roll up... But they do cost a lot more too fix, I know that. My other sister has an Audi and the dealer was trying to charge her $150 to change the oil. LOL.
Im saving for a car now, I have almost $3,000 to put towards a down payment... Where I am, a 2007 fit sport with around or less than 30,000 miles goes for about $14,500-$18,000!!!!! They kelly blue book is like $12,500.. but dealers want more for them and I can get a 2006 GTI with the same miles for around $15,000...
I love the looks of both cars equally, I like the inside of the fit a little more than the GTI... but right now, I love both cars and I dont know how Im going to decide :*(
If I got the GTI, I'd prolly leave stock rims on there for a while and get it chipped for $300 and have 35-45 more HP instantly.... If I got the Fit, I'd get a blue, put gold advan AVS T6's on it and and exhaust.... I wouldnt even waist money trying to get HP gains on a car with 105 hp.

I work on VW/Audi too, and i wouldn't come close to owning one. All i had to do was take a peak under the hood before i bought my Fit, and it was clear to me. Our shop deals with MB, BMW, VW/Audi, Jaguar, Volvo, Porsche, Honda/Acura, and Toyota/Lexus. The only techs that would buy what they work on is our Toyota and Honda guys. That speaks for itself.
