Just bought an '06 Reno back in October to have as a daily driver so I can turn my '02 Civic SI into an Auto-X/Weekend Track car. I'll tell you that even the rebadged Daewoo is great. At current incentive rates, it's even better. I do wish that they would bring the Swift over. However, since this may not happen, the Reno is as close as we will get for the time being.

Do yourself a favor and at least test drive a 5 speed. They're quite zippy for what they are and I have had mine up to an indicated 120 mph and it was still pulling...
:D

actually i checked out the reno, before i had heard solid facts about the Fit coming to the states, and yea, its not bad! i like suzuki a lot actually, and i feel like if they had the money to make cars for themselves solely (as opposed to the rebadged daewoos, and the big being owned 30something percent by GM thing) , they would be damn good, damn fun cars. hell, thier motorcycles are among the fastest and sweetest looking around...imagine if they had that liscense on more of thier own cars!

Mazda Verisa

Toyota Yaris

Nissan Versa

Scion XA

Honda Fit

All at around 12K, this is going to be good :D.
We have both the Honda Jazz and Suzuki Swift here in the Philippines. I actually test drived both before deciding on the Jazz Vtec 1.5. The Swift is a real good looker, resembles a Mini. Jazz has more leg room and more amenities. I also heard that the Swift is a mini gas guzzler too.

Although I have not driven/seen the Swift, I do know the engine stats. I will vouch for the fact that my Suzuki Reno IS gas guzzler for what it is. I have barely broken 29 mpg and it has nearly 7000 miles. In contrast, my '00 VW Golf was doing 33/34 mpg all the time in mixed driving.

I am also a member of the Suzuki forums and there is a whole thread regarding just how bad the mileage is (relatively) on the Reno.

The Mazda looks sharp. I have to say I love Mazdas. The are great and they are not fords. (sure they are freinds but I never saw a ford stamp anywhere on my rotorys) (its like linking the VW beetle to Lamborginis, sure they are friends but they are not the same) I actually just sold my 323 two days ago to make room for a future Fit more than likely.

The little 323 had over 255,000 miles on it and still was great. A little bit of heart break selling it and I love how for a little car it handled. I am hoping that the FIT can fill its shoes come April.

VW has a very long ways to go before they are considered reliable. This is going to come down to Honda/Toyota/Scion. Has anyone considered the Mini Cooper?

Although the Mini Cooper is a nice looking small car, the price tag itself puts it out of the sub-compact car class you see in this thread.

I'm just holding out to see if Suzuki will bring over the Swift Sport to the US.

i too thing toyota and honda then nissan are the cream of the crop! i dont count the cheap korean cars they are not rated in the same ballpark and have a lot more reliability issues. I saw an accord in the trader magazine with 510,000 miles. i dont think i will see a korean make that statement!

The Next Four:

I thought you guys might be interested in reading this. I actually read it in the NY Times, but they charge for some back date issues, so I used google for the following link on who will dominate:

Thought you all would enjoy, bit of reading but worth it, IMO

Mazda does not neccessarily equal Ford. Yes, some of its cars share components with Ford but not all. The RX-8 for example is 100% Mazda and Japanese.

And yes, there is a crappier car company other than Ford. Its called GM.

Estitue lower right hand photo viewing b17gsr - we'll just get the plastic knock-out cover here in NA ...

No, there's a power mirror switch in the NA model shown at the Montreal Autoshow, but it didn't have a button for heated or retractable mirrors (next to the L-R selector switch).

Heated mirrors in Canada are VERY handy.

I don't think the US version of the Fit will have the heated mirror or height adjustment option available in Japan and Europe. No US version Honda has had the retractable option even though its standard in Japan.

Canada is a different story, I think heated mirrors will probably be offered due to the winter climate.

i love that mazda, but we are never gonna see it in NA considering we don't even get the option to have the mazda3 with a 1.5 or 2.0 engine, instead they want to put in more power next year. what is wrong with americans?

Wow, that Mazda is t3h sex. Mazdas are not Fords, unless you're talking about the adaptations of the Ford trucks. Mazda pwnz j00.

Anyway, I actually don't despise the Aveo, I think it's a pretty decent small car for what they're charging for them (less than $10k). I also think that they look fairly good for what they are. I like them better than a lot of other GM products, I'll put it that way.

Old Yaris/Vitz > New Yaris (visually)

That Jazz steering wheel isn't the one we're getting, is it? I don't like that instrument panel either. I think I've seen a different one in the '07 auto show pics.

I'm surprised that Scion is going to keep selling the xA with the Yaris available. I imagine that for the same prices, more people will go with the Yaris.

Because Toyota wants the xA to be the 5 door counterpart of the Yaris.

I like the looks of the Mini Cooper, but with a price tag of $22,000, no way. :(
