Fuel economy is pretty pathetic too considering it puts out 103hp. I know there are many people "whining" about the Fit at 31/38...but that's far better than the Aveo at 24/32mpg.

Sorry, I'm not sold...I'll keep focused on the Fit for now.
33/38? hehe

My first car was a Ford Escort. I will never drive an American car again. It's been Hondas ever since, and I expect it to stay that way.

I have driven a rental Aveo sedan, and the stability at high speeds is horrible.

And when you sit in it and start it up you'll know why you saw one for $7777.

fit may win on paper but aveo takes the fit on the street  I wouldnt go getting an auto aveo either because I have one and this thing sucks, sometimes it doesnt want to shift until you lift your foot off the gas.....the 5 spd is ok once you get a short shifter.....fit owners are lucky that they are backed by honda because you will get aftermarket parts...the aveo doesnt get anything in the US, not even a true CAI, as a matter of fact I am the only person that makes a CAI kit. there are performance options out there you just have to know the connections between daewoo and opel engines, most of which are outside the US which makes them hard to get here since they arent imported as much as honda engines....in comparison, the aveo body has more curved edges to it while the fit is more sharp edged....i like both cars and both have tons of potential considering their light weight and engine swap possiblities....

Once you load an Aveo 5-door up with most of the stuff the Fit has, it comes out at almost the same price. I'll take the Fit, especially considering the sub-par mileage and lack of 5-speed AT for the Aveo... not to mention the reliability :)

I sure wish we had a sunroof option, though :(

Fit Sport AT: $15,970

Chevy Aveo LS 1LS: $15,465
  • Audio system feature, , premium 6-speaker system * $125.00
  • Audio system, , AM/FM stereo with CD player and MP3 playback, seek-and-scan, auxiliary input jack and 4 speakers * $325.00
  • Brakes, , 4-wheel antilock, front disc/rear drum * $400.00
  • Cruise Control and Remote Keyless Entry Package, includes (K34) cruise control and (UA5) Remote Keyless Entry, includes power door locks and content theft-deterrent system * $425.00
  • Engine, , E-TEC II 1.6L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder MFI, (103 hp [77 kW] @ 5800 rpm, 107 lb-ft of torque [145 N-m] @ 3600 rpm) with 5-year/60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty * $0.00
  • Fog lamps, front * $110.00
  • Spoiler, rear * $225.00
  • Transmission, 4-speed automatic, includes "hold control" mode * $850.00
  • Wheels, 15" (38.1 cm) 5-spoke aluminum * $475.00

you dont buy an aveo loaded thou...atleast i wouldnt, why pay the extra money for premium sound when the first thing people do is a better system...alloy wheels? changing wheels and tires is a must for the aveo (this solves the whole unstable at high speeds or wind problem)... plus you can get them for alot cheaper at the dealers especially if its 04-05 model, like any where from 9g to 12g with good options

on a side note, I had a friend who owns an aveo test drive the fit paddle shift auto and he said it was pretty bad....any idea y this would be?

Hrmm. To be totally honest, maybe he's trying to feel better about purchasing an Aveo? I don't know ;)

This is sacrilege. I demand this be taken down.

I have found that the Fits gas mileage does not match what the sticker says. My last tank which was 60 percent or more highway was 31 mpg. Not to great for 109 hp.

I had one as a rental for two days and hated it. The numbers are acceptable but the car is fairly poor overall.

the aveo gets better than 24/31 mpg...i get better gas mileage than that and I am on the gas peddle all the time....the main reason I have the aveo is because I didnt buy it. my parents bought it for me (but i make payments now) and i got my license in 2004 and aveo was the only one out yet and my dad , who is a mechanic and car person, test drove a bunch of cars and said the aveo was the best handling out of all the other cars out at the time....plus dealer mentioned that chevy would be coming out with aftermarket parts for the car  2 years and nothing....i think i would have gotten a fiit if it had been out when i got my license just because it would be easier to modify even though I dont like the lack of torque numbers alot of honda engines produce, but now I am too deep in love with my aveo to move to a different car lol

I had an Aveo before the g/f totalled it - paid $8500 w/ automatic and a/c. A truly trouble free 26,000 miles. Totalled the car, and the settlement was $10800, so I can't complain. Best deal there ever was!

I liked the Aveo, a lot, and I got it for $0 down and $187/month. It did everything good, nothing great. I think the Fit is one of the coolest cars out right now - but given the same deal, is the Fit $6000+ better? (even money buys the Fit every time)

I didn't get my g/f one because I want her in something bigger (got her an 06 Civic Coupe).

hahaha the aveo will last just as long....even though people think daewoos are crap....the 1.6L engine that the aveo shares with the lanos has been in use for quite some time...they use them as taxis in other countries because the engine will last long as long as you keep up with changing the timing belt on time....Ive gone over two years with my aveo and still not a single problem and I am very heavy on the gas and the car takes a beating at times and it still runs better than the day we bought it...yea the aveo isnt an eye please in stock form but with some work such as lowering, wheels and KDM front end swap it looks good

Hey, the Fit is the better car, but my Aveo did it's first (and last) 26,000 miles better than any Honda or Toyota I've ever owned. (note, I replaced the Aveo with a Honda. Don't be a fanboy, that kind of rhetoric is worthless.
