Hmm...similar in a way to the Fit.

Having owned an American brand car though, and experiencing how fast they depreciate in value, I can't bring myself to buy another American brand this time around.

Fuel economy is pretty pathetic too considering it puts out 103hp. I know there are many people "whining" about the Fit at 31/38...but that's far better than the Aveo at 24/32mpg.

Sorry, I'm not sold...I'll keep focused on the Fit for now.

Might say Chevy, but it's a Daewoo.
Also check out the Chevy MX3 concept - rumor has it that it might be coming stateside - it's a Daewoo Matiz...

Also more than half the current U.S. Suzuki automotive product line is Daewoo built!

Got the gf's 2004 Aveo for $8500 w/ automatic and A/C - NEW. Hate to admit it, but it's definitely had less problems than my 2002 Civic Si. (tie rod ends, creaky clutch, etc.)

Obviously I'm interested in the FIT, but from an economic standpoint, it would _never_ equal the value we continue to get from our Aveo.

might wanna get one while ya can...

They've got the 2007 coming and it looks like it's only a sedan, no hatch. Which seems totally silly to me, I see quite a few Aveos on my commute to work, and *ALL* of them are hatchbacks, I have yet to see a sedan version on the road.

From what I heard at the Detroit show an ALL NEW hatch is in the works and will not be out till fall. Also the Daewoo Mantiz is due as a Chevy model soon.

However, I doubt we'll see a Chevrolet based on the Daewoo Maitz--mostly because it will be too small physically in terms of interior space for American-sized passengers.

Check out the news at Edmunds Inside Edition - they have info contrary and think GM will attempt an ultra mini stateside soon ....

The only way the Maitz could meet crash standards in Australia was to be offered with front airbags standard. One car you sure don't want to be in in a crash.

That Chevy Aveo hatchback is virtually the same as the Daewoo Kalos (with minor differences and a different badge of course) that we used to get here in Australia. Holden have recycled it as their "new" Barina. It's a poor-man's Jazz hehe. Shame though, 'cos I think the 3-door Barina is quite funky to look at.

The only two cars that I can see worth looking into are the Fit and Toyota Yaris. If they do a TRD version, it would be worth looking into.

The Aveo has been criticized for (besides poor fuel economy) it's lack luster 5-speed tranny. They say the gearing is too wide and you're often stuck cruising in 3rd gear. They actually recommended the auto. I was willing to sacrifice the poor manual tranny for a sedan w/ moonroof, but there doesn't seem to be much in aftermarket support for the Aveo...at least, not here in the States.

As for the Matiz...I love it! Yes, it's tinny, but I love small cars! I wish they would also import other micro-cars, like the Kia Morning (wonder if Kia will also extend the same warranty)!

Matiz

Morning

Note the new Aveo suddenly will have side airbags and remote entry. Competition is beautiful. But no mention of fuel economy. If it was going to be better than currently they would be screaming it. Therefore same old same old.
If the Deawoo economy sucks, go to Toyota and rebadge the Toyota Yaris or just buy the engine.

No we'll just sell a compromise instead of state of the art. Not even get a good Opel from Europe or something.
Ford sells itself out with a shitty version of the Focus. ????????

Fairly nice review. I like the styling of the Fit a whole lot better and I know that the transmission, engine and handling of the Fit are going to be better. I also don't like not at least being able to have curtain airbags front and rear as an option.
