after reading what has been said how i feel about the FIT its the luxury answer to the B-segment vehicle...the company says it all...i looked at the Aveo, but when i saw the FIT i was sold on it...i really dont think that the aveo out of the box will handle as good as the FIT...i test drove one and it drove ok...it drove ok, but the FIT is to me more fun to drive...Honda did a good job on the FIT and i love it:cool:

I was seriously considering purchasing an Aveo over my Fit. I'd rented an Aveo hatch for a few days while the Escort was in the shop, and it didn't handle that badly. Good, but not great. Plus, I liked the style and thought it was adorable (similar to the Fit, lol). I noticed that the Fit has more front legroom than the Aveo, though. Or, at least, it did for the way I sit. My knee scraped against the steering wheel column a few times in the Aveo, and it's never done that in the Fit. The Fit's also more versatile than the Aveo. Plus, I wanted a car with a few "creature comforts," and by the time I priced the Fit and the Aveo together with the features I wanted, they were about the same price. So, I figured, why not just buy the car I fell in love with and that my heart told me I wanted?
Incidentally, my fiance owns an Aveo sedan. He's had it for almost two years, and has over 20,000 miles on it. He's had absolutely no problems with it, so Aveo doesn't necessarily mean horrid. I've been inside it, and it's pretty roomy and comfortable. Handles well, too.

Yes, the Aveo is a Daewoo. Yes, Daewoo is Korean. And the car is a bargin basement Chevrolet sold the world over. But, that is not all bad.
I have Korean relatives (a nationalistic car loving nation) and and have owned and been around the "bargin basement" Chevrolet cars including a very clean 1993 Geo Metro (Canadian built Suzuki Swift w/G10 motor to the rest fo the world) that we bought new that I am now selling.
Honestly, the problems I saw with the entry level Chevrolet cars were the thow-away mentality of their owners. We also had another global GM car, the Chevrolet Chevette. Both cars were maintained like the high dollar cars of the fleet and treated well and caused few problems and outlived many of their siblings from when they were new.
Most did not see this level of maintenace. Ours saw nothing special, just routine PREVENTATIVE stuff including keeping them clean and washed. Most the others were "drive it until it breaks" in nature. Part of an ****retentive European upbringing I guess.
The Aveo is a neat car, the hatch is better than the sedan, and is a nice looking little car, but I can imagine they are a few steps below the Honda. As pointed out, they are changing this year.

If anyone checks out the new, redesigned Aveo, I'd be curious to find out what you think. I was not at all impressed with the one I rented while waiting for my Fit to arrive back in April. Looked cute, but tinny, noisy, lousy cornering, ugly dash.

Nope, I did not like the Aveo. My mechanic would be disgusted if I brought one to him for repair. My Fit arrived on April 18, but the dealer wouldn't let me have it until the 20th. When the manager heard I was stuck with an Aveo rental, he took pity on me and loaned me a CR-V for 2 days! Articles I read about the redesigned Aveo said Chevy is adding some amenities to help it compete with Fit & Yaris, but I doubt the quality will be improved.
