What to swap into my 2000 Civic Sedan?

So heres the story. In November I got an engine flush and that destroyed my Civic's D16. Now, after two months and a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, it looks like the owner fo the lube shop is going to pay for full engine repairs.

Now my friends mechanic is going to draw up the quote but I don't know what I want to do. I was thinking a sex change, it's auto, and B16.

Thoughts?

Any B-Series is going to require new engine mounts and a new transmission, plus if your car is auto (is that what you meant?) the auto-manual swap is a big PITA too...

Personally I'd go for a B20, they're pretty cheap (and torquey) I can't see the lube shop springing for a B16 or B18 VTEC.

An engine swap would be cheaper than all the labor required to strip the motor down to the block and bore it to fix the damage the piston rod did. It's knocking in there BAD.

The B16 swap with sex change is only about $2500. The quote will be around $3000.

A friend I autocross with dropped a valve on her 160 whp B16 and put a B20 in the car while she was getting the B16 rebuilt. She lost HP but gained major torque which helped daily driveaility and power out of the corners in autocross. She ended up getting the B16 fixed and selling it cuz she liked the B20 so much... more $ for other mods (suspension & tires)

I suggest a B18C (GSR) or H22 rather than a B16. The B16s are torqueless wonders unless its FI'ed.

Hmotorsonline is a great place to buy your motors from.

Remember though, I want to keep the price resonable. The guy will most likely use his insurance to pay it.

you could just do the auto to manny conversion and just get a d16z6 OR y8 with a turbo. ive seen some good numbers with both of these motors with a bolt on turbo kit.

more info on d-series.org

You probably have to pay out of pocket for the ECU to go with the B16, auto to manual swap, and tune. So its more than $3000.

BTW what B16 are you doing?

man, b16ftw.

if you REALLY want to keep it cheap, get an LS automatic.

more hp, and good torque for daily driving, and you can keep your tranny while making your car faster.

thats probably the cheapest route next to just getting another d16.

you could even do what redrum said (i love modded d series engines, when done right they are sweet.)

lol at all the ls vtec turbo and k20 turbo!

Well I sent him all the paperwork yesterday and a quote of $2700 for parts and labor. He said he will have an answer for me by tomorrow morning.

my bad! you are totally correct, i just didn't type what i was trying to express: i just meant that he wont have to switch out his a/t shiftlever and and do all the other crap that is involved with going from an a/t to a m/t swap.

most ls automatics that i have seen include the tranny anyway.
