There's always a crowd who tries to be different... In this case I think that whoever the starter was and all of the followers are retarded, lol. That stuff is ugly. Why would anybody think that's cool? What are they gonna think up next? Broken window trend?

It works for the older VWs for some reason but if you do it on a car that's new/new-ish, just doesn't look right. With all the sophisticated OEM painting processes (even if our fits suck comparatively) rust like that wouldn't show up for quite a while, so why go for that look? The older golfs and beetles with the old school roof racks full of nostalgia type stuff - that hood goes with it. Those were surfer cars, road trip cars, hippie child cruisers... Rust wasn't a concern for them.
Rusty hood on a 95 civic? Looks like sh*t. Moreso even if you fake the rust.

I could be king amoungst those clowns! My Cadillac has a rusty hood, trunk, fenders, roof, floor pan, trunk floor, wheels, suspension, gas tank..... I too think it looks best on an older car. When you take a car that is less than a year old and make it look neglected to the point of abuse I sort of lose the point. That and it is probably the worlds largest pain in the ass to keep the rust stains off the rest of the paint job. The Civic with the bra over the rusty hood made me laugh though, gotta stop those nasty stone ships after all LOL

it's nothing all that different from what rat rodders do. I guess it's just the updated version less the rest of the car :D

very very interesting, i think it's cool but only if you made it that way, some of those cars are just cheap asses that couldn't afford to paint the taiwan tin they bought over factory hoods when the wrecked their car, the few year old vw with an old school roof rack and the whitewalls is totally sick and i'd rock that style

I personally LOVE IT! Some of those cars are just busted and rusty all over, that is doing it wrong.

i always loved the "rusted oldie" look.
think of it as this, if a person has the same car as you but just different mods your paint is still the same color but if you have the same rusted hood or parts, then thats totally different because 1. it rusts differently and 2. it makes it unique which in turn makes it art. thats just my 2cents.

Maybe its my odd styling... but I LOOOOVE it. Old Vw's that are beat and rusted look best to me.
However, I probably wouldnt make something that was nice and shiny rusted. The roof on my Vw has paint chips. I was going to rust it out. I dont want it to run down the plastics or windows and ruin the clean look.

I have friends that have done it. Newer Golfs, they removed the hoods, set them on fire, cover it in salt water and let it sit for a week.

I practically made Josh spray his hood down with salt water. Looks way better as the bullet holes have rust dripping down the white paint now.

Its clean but the paint could be better. Its been resprayed and I like it/hate it.
The rood has chunks missing from around the sunroof. Previous owner did it with tape to hold the sunroof in. :p

Heres a bus I took pics of.

Theres also an OLD Vw bus/truck that looks just like this thing.

Im not worried about the hood. A friend of mine colored the missing paint areas in with a marker.
