Escalade - not worth it!
yeah, im used to driving a lot of diesels and larger trucks so i know how you feel. sometimes it gets pretty tiresome but hey, thats the fad now-a-days to go green right? so people are hopping on the band wagon
Most of the Green fad is totally hipocritical, just a giant marketing scam that has gotten out of hand.
"Look at me, I bought carbon credits... my business is now green"... good job, your company now outputs even more pollution than it did before, but because you paid off the carbon tax program and own a bunch of fictional points you are now green.
Just like Green energy, they sell more than tripple the "green electricity" at a premium price than they make. Half the companies are posting how green they are because they pay the premium price for it... money doesn't make you green!!!
Then you get this giant group of tea drinking wankers spouting off to people like that stupid lady at the grocery store as if they have some sort of entitlement to do so... please!! My plastic bags get recycled, no word of a lie! What do you think happens to your "Green" ultra durable bag? It doesn't get recycled, it doesn't even break down... we are going to have a giant wad of these "green" bags in the dump in 5 years... yah for stupid people.
Don't even get me started on the murcury filled "Green" bulbs!
/Rant
Just seems like this "Green" fad is interfering with people rights to live how they want... especially considering how much of it is simply a shady film of false perception.

that's about as good as it's gunna get for today. what a crappy day. lol
...
What is with all the SUV bashing? Who gives a f-ck what style of car somebody else drives, it can be as unpractical and over-stated as somebody wants; that is the nice thing about living in a free country.
Bashing SUV's is no better than somebody bashing Fit's, I enjoy living in a country (applies to either Canada or US) where you have the right to drive whatever you want.
If that's the case, people will feel like they have less income and end up spending less because more of their income will go to taxes causing a spiraling downwards economic meltdown.
but do you really understand how bad we are ruining the earth?
it shouldn't take a video or some crappy hippie speech to get through, this i'll give you.
your location says calgary so i'm going to assume that you live in an area that is well kept and surrounded by green freaks, but please do make the effort to realize down here in this southwest shithole smog is so bad the LED signs on highways warn us "not to drive with the windows down and to carpool if possible."
i don't expect people to completely reform, but can you honestly explain to me why it's okay for junior's first vehicle to be a 9mpg lifted truck? and how it is i shouldn't find this to be pig disgusting and unnecessary?
theres almost no drinkable water, untouched/unharvested land, or fuel resources left our world, this is not a place i'd like to send my grandchildren into.
on a lighter note, i am ALL FOR rocketing all of our trash into space. srsly.
I understand your commentary. I did read when you said "most" up there in the first sentence.

i think people are going way too crazy over it all. don;t get me wrong, i'm all for helping the enviroment, but with china's economy growning at the rate that it is, theres no way people are going to change. they're just to F-ing ignorant.
this whole "green phase" thing doesn't allow for much word from the people who were "green" before hand, most everyone is in the boat right now.
i just see it as small things making smaller differences, not one very noticeable but its something.
but just because your state/country laws don't prohibit you from being an ignorant jackass/consumer whore/sex offender that doesn't mean you shouldn't take your actions and general demeanor into question.
but srsly rocket. trash. space. who is it REALLY hurting? no one we know!
my 07 fit only has 22,000 miles, but i just had the the 30,000 mile check up on my 08, and they asked if i'd be interested in trading it in lol.....i don't know if the one guy was joking but he was ready to give me $15K for it..... that's nearly what i bought it for brand new.
honda and toyotas keep their value off the lot.
i was trying to find a celica gt-s for a few months before getting my 08 fit...and every celica i found was way overpriced in my opinion. didn't feel like paying $14K for a car that had 50,000 miles. you know?
since i got my other Fit though of course i find a million GT-S like i wanted....but the economy has taken a hit (obviously) since then and used car prices reflect that.

It's not that I'm bashing on SUV's. I'm bashing on "SOME" people's irresponsibility. All these people biting more than they can chew and then find out that they can't pay their debt causing banks to fail along with economic delmina. Well, if default keeps up, banks are going to be very careful on who they lend to and it'll almost be completly tideous to get a loan. And if these banks fail because people fail to pay the banks back, govenment will probably step in and force hard working tax payers to pay the price of someone else's incompetence.
If that's the case, people will feel like they have less income and end up spending less because more of their income will go to taxes causing a spiraling downwards economic meltdown.

I am in no way defending the financial problems of people, they bring it on themselves

I have just pretty much accepted that the Earth is changing and we are going to have to adapt. Technology is our best friend in this battle, not marketing gimmicks.
As far as what people drive, it is total freedom in my books. This world would be a far better place without religion, guns, fast food & children under the age of 12... but it would also be bland and a total dictatorship. If somebody wants a giant lifted 4x4, I don't have any problems with it; now with that said if they hang a bunch of racist flags off the back and use it irresponcibly to intimidate people I obviously don't support that kind of behavoir. Honestly the day they start banning cars for poor MPG will be the day I shed a tear because we all know that will be the start of a long road of killing off automotive enthusists.
The one thing I keep hearing is "Oh my chilldren (and/or grandchildren) should have a nice place to grow up". Ok, I can dig that; Fair enough. But the biggest problem with the world today is over population; if somebody really wanted to help the earth they wouldn't have kids, lol
Mostly was just ranting yesterday after a long day at work and that stupid lady giving me a hard time about my "un-green" plastic bags.

Agreed with the overpop suggestion sugar, and I'm not against trucks. What I am against is our government not classifying suv's as passenger vehicles and making the carmakers comply with gas mpg standards for their overall fleet. Trucks are exempt from that MPG standard. SUVs are not counted towards the carmakers fleet mpg standards, they are treated as "trucks" just like semi's and delivery vans...that is wrong. Of course you should be able to buy what you want, and the green thing is being overplayed, but lets be realistic and make SUV's be counted as part of the passenger car fleet the makers build.
rocketing our trash into space may help the short term, but who knows what the long term effects could be lol. just simply cutting back isn't going to solve the excessive smog around large metropolitan areas, it will just reduce it by a small amount for the future.

I saw a documentary recently on a US super-dump that layers the garbage in with piping to produce enough methane gas to power 50,000 homes... now that is the type of stuff that inspires me!

China has a system in place which limits people to 1 child, you can have more, but you have to pay big fines and fees. I actually think that is a pretty reasonable approch to the problem (well, at least compared to the alternatives!!)
Realistically I agree, people SHOULD all drive totally stock fuel efficent cars and pay fees & fines for driving gas guzzlers. With that said we are coming up against a civil rights and freedoms issue, how much freedom are people willing to sacrifice in the name of the environment. You do have a point about the trucks though, if there are guidelines in place there should not be exemptions.
I am not saying there is an answer, but until it gets forced on us I don't believe in hating on somebody for the type of car they choose to drive.
Swine Flu.
The thing is oil will not exist forever, so why allow it to be wasted for no reason other than "I will drive whatever big guzzling POS that I want cause I'm American" attitude. I'm in favor of our freedoms and hate big government telling me what to do, but we need to wise up and stop wasting oil period. In my opinion, the government should have a flat tax and should tax gas $2.50/gallon to raise money. It just makes sense to go towards a simple solution as opposed to the complex "solutions" that are becoming the norm. Oh, and LOL on swine flu comment
