THere's no point discussing back and forth, Just trust me, When the 1988-2000 Civic Hatch backs were BORN, NO ONE in their right MIND thought of it as a race car..... WHere are those civic hatch's NOW!....

You'll see..... I'll prove one day........(Stay Tuned......)

I seem to recall...

way back the early Porsche 911's never being considered a worthy race car either.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it was something about the car always wanting to spin out due to handling issues and a "strange" boxer engine. I wonder how the Porsche 911 is doing today.;)

Not saying the Fit even comes close to being a 911, but the comparison comes to mind

The Porsche 911 is in a similar position now. Great car, but the rear engine placement does compromise it. It limits the engine's size and compromises weight distribution. The mid-engine Cayman could be made to be a much better sports car than the 911 because its layout is better.

I think the original poster was just saying that a stock Fit is not a sports car at all and is really a practical economy car. I think that is true. Any car can be made much faster and made to handle alot better. The only difference with the Fit is that it likely will have alot of people modding it since it is a cheap Honda which will make parts for modding it and making it faster cheaper and more accessible. That type of stuff won't be available for the Chevy Aveo (and it probably would break down anyway).

hmm...I'd have to say the 911 is still a VERY worthy race car. For example....guess who won the Rolex24 (A 24hr race at Daytona, comprising off a fix of GT cars such as the front engine Pontiac GTO and Mazda RX8, etc...plus Porsches 911 (996/997). Yup a Porsche...even better a 996, last years model beating a new 997.

Seriously though, you have to define "race car". Once you get your definition of racecar, you see if the Fit... uh... fits.

We should put it this way. The Fit you buy off a dealer's lot is not a race car. It is an economy car. You can put as much money as you want to make it race worthy but it will never be a race car like an F1 car.

Just do whatever you want to the car and as long as you like it and doesn't harm others, who cares about what other people say / think.

i would hesitate to even call that a racecar. i would consider it more of an experiment, or atleast ours was. and why do you guys have the rain slicks on it?

did you help work on that?

i was on the Rutgers SAE team at some point btw.

I love the way my FIT feels, I feels exactly like driving my 91 CRX si in terms of turn in. The crx is obviously under powered but my turbocharged EF9(actually its my fiancee's car got bored one day and now its not boring) smokes the crap out of EVO's all day long and thats with a Single cam non-vtec 1.5l, that just proves you don't need a lot of money to make things fast I used spare parts and I am not rich by any means. As soon as someone learns how to chip or most likely reflash the ecu the possibilities will be limited only by imagination. So turbo kit or k20/24 this thing will fly. It's also a honda so it will have good tossability in the twistys

Spoon Fit

I have seen a video of the Spoon Fit on the track. The driver makes it clear by commenting that the Spoon Fit is:

The thing about Spoon is that they don't tend to use forced induction and I'm not sure if they were using the 1.3 or the 1.5.

They were using the 1.5l vtec

So what are the specs needed to be classified a race car?
does it need 400hp, roll cage, fuel cell, to actually be considered a race car? If so what about the spec miata class ? i understand that spoon spent lots of money and their are cheaper platforms to build a race car but that is not the point. In the end i believe it has the potential to hold its own at small circuits (where i cant use my 400 hp in my other car) or autocross. but on circuits like road atlanta it does not stand a chance.

a stinkload of money was spent on the fit to get it to perform like that. they didn't like driving the stock fit at all.

True but as they spend boatloads of $ on their project, they will mass produce products for us to make our cars handle and perform better! Plus after market people will copy them, and that will bring the cost down!

I still agree with one point in the video, we are waiting for a more powerful engine in this car to realize it's full potential!..... i smell a K20 ......

I traded in a 400 hp GTO, to get Fit.

Who cares if it is underpowered off the lot, that can be dialed in. I just laugh all the way to the bank now on my gas savings. As for being a race car, any vehicle can be raced! It just requires the sponsorship and people willing to race them with the bucks to finance the operation. The Fit Racing League could be just around the corner for all we know.:cool:
