There are big turbos, and then there are BIG turbos..

Thought some of you might get a kick out of these pics.

For a frame of reference:

On bottom in this picture is the ~42mm (referring to inlet diameter) GT25 that 95% of turbo'd Fits in the US have installed, above is the ~46mm MHI 14B that will be the secondary turbo on mine.

Here we have the 14B next to my 59mm BW S200sx, which is the same size as the Garrett turbo that will be the primary turbo on my Fit:

This is the 71mm HX52 on my race car currently:

It's Garrett Equivalent is closes to a GT42R or a GT45R, which are about the biggest you will find on a small displacement 4 cylinder engine.

Here is a 122mm GT60, which is about the biggest you will see on even a medium to large V8:

Now from here we move up to the big boys...

This is a 180mm compressor from a mining vehicle:

Here we have a ~275mm turbo from a locomotive:

And as far as the pictures I have at the moment this is the biggest (larger ones exist from Napier/Wartsila/MAN/etc) with an inlet nearly four feet across from a medium sized ship:

Compressors of this size typically operate in steady state at as much as 15-18k rpm to provide boost pressures approaching 85psi or 6:1PR!

Good rundown to show people the true variance of turbos.

My plan was/is to run a GT-4788 on my Camaro. That isn't a monster turbo as far as V8s go but it is decent sized for a street car. :P

What displacement? Even on "just" a 5.7l that should be a fun street/strip setup.

Use the big divided T6 and a couple big WG's like TiAl 60mm's unless you will be running a ton of boost.

Any particular power goals or timeslips in mind?

So it looks like popular demand is calling for the old avatar back. If I can find him I shall oblige!

hayden the shipping weight was 62lbs, though I think that may be a bit more than it actually was.

I got your PM I should have a chance to give you a proper response tonight or early tomorrow afternoon!
