Fit or Civic?
Initially, I was interested in both. Costwise, its stripped down civic vs nicely equipped Fit...
A nice performance filter and muffler should compensate for the power difference if it bothers me... it doesnt now. My celica gts had a lot more power, but I rarely used it. The VTEC gives you power in lower RPM and I feel more zippy.
I drove a 06 accord for the day, when my Fit was getting permaplated at the dealership... and I was happy to get my Fit back. The 4 cyl accord felt underpowered in comparison.

I also looked at the Fit and Civic. I think the Civic is one of the best looking cars on the road under $30K. The inside of the Civic, in theory, should be amazing, but it didn't work for me. I hate digital speedometers. The inside of the Fit isn't as cool as the Civic, but it seems to work so much better. The Fit is Simple but Smart.
You can't deny the versatility of the Fit.
I liked the versatility and the smart layout...so I took the FIT.

I went back and forth with this too. What put me in a Fit was:
-The vin # started with a "J"
-multiple seat configurations for cargo
-electric pwr steering
-awesome handling
-rarity, for now at least
-mileage was good enough
-Too many Civics on the road
-and what put it over the top was viewing the Spoon Sports Fit track video

I think any of the two is a good choice, it all comes down to your preference.
My sis-in-law wanted a Fit too but the wait and hassle that comes with it had her interests dwindling. I suggested the Civic, she checked it out, and she's now a happy camper.
MAN!!! did i get lucky with getting my Fit early or what.

I could always spend more and get the si version of the civic, but i don't see the point to get a fast car in the civic when i have a S2k for track and autoX. I don't need 4 doors as well. What are your thoughts? What convinces you all to get a fit instead of a civic?
although i love the zippy feel of the Fit - and the look and the hatch, i am not getting what i was hoping for out of it. sorry i cant recomend the Fit anymore. i am out of love with it and ready to trade it in. too many issues. if i was getting great gas milage i would say go fit.
it also depends on what you need - do you need the room to haul things around? then go fit. do need good mpgs and comfort, style and quality go civic.
anyway... because I *just* purchased the Fit and I've had the Civic for a year I guess I'd be more equipped to speak on the 'vs' topic in a few months when I can compare the 2
however... I could have gotten a MUCH better deal on a Civic and I would have gone that route except that we needed a car that could take the place of our truck that we were trading in... so the Fit was a no-brainer purchase

Personally, I love the look of the new Civic and although it's built in the USA...the Honda plants in Marysville and E. Liberty (Accord and Civic) have some of the best quality control in the world! Proving that Americans can indeed build cars if the UAW would just go get %^$#'ed.
Now, in my courier business we are buying 3 new Fits this summer, I've already got one running and the next two are to be delivered in the next month. They work great for us, hold a ton and replace Toyota Matrix autos on these routes. They are preferred over the Matrix for their handling. Of course, my drivers loved the old Corolla's (couldn't hold enough) and would love to have Civic's - if only they made them in a wagon!
BUt...if the car were for me personally, I'd go Civic! It's hot!

It was SIMPLE: The Civic is not available in the US as a hatchback. That ended the debate for me right there....Ever since my first car - a subaru hatchback through my last car - a Saab Hatchback....and now the Fit - hatchbacks all the way!!!
I've been reading some consumer reviews (owners) and it seems that the civic's MPG isn't up to their standard as well. I've been gettting 33.5 mpg with my A/T Fit S, down from 35 due to driving habits i think. But on a trip 2 wks ago with a passenger and fully loaded up in back i average 35.2. Personally those #'s are spot on.
Anyway, my only real concern about the Fit is the paint issue, not a big deal since this should be a service bulletin. FYI, i already had mine repainted at no cost. If another problem with the paint resurfaces, i'll fight to have it covered under warranty again. I've been keeping an eye closely, so far no other paint issues.

i have an '06 civic lx coupe and my girlfriend has a fit sport. i like my civic on the freeway and handling is a lot sportier. but i like the fit for its greater utilitly and i guess "go-kart" like feel around town. but i like the fit better for its tunability and is just more "fun".
One of the main reasons I got the Fit instead of a civic was because..
everybody and their grandmother's got a civic.. not only that but you see so many civics that are just "Fried RICE!" so.. id like to start with a clean slate that nobody has and will wounder.. WTF just passed me?!

Had a chance to drive my sis-in-law's civic lx for extended period of time. All i can say is it's not for me. It lacks the tossability/handling and quick on feet traits of the Fit. However, it's a better highway cruiser as it's more stable at highway speed. My guess is because of the lower stance, lower roofline. It is also obviously better in the H/P department, besides 0-60, i don't see it being an advantage on anything else. Fit around town, from stoplight to stoplight is quicker to 100 yards or so (just a guesstimate), very useful when trying to get ahead of slower cars.
I contracted on a FIT and was told it would be in "tomorrow". Got the VIN and everything - paid cash and included an extra 600 to sweeten the deal. Tomorrow turned into "next week", then by "the end of the month". Could not tell me where it was at any given time, but was always certain about when it would be available (somehow..).
I can't stand this kinda crap and really got turned off. Got my money back and began shopping (again). After owning 3 Celica's, 1 4Runner, 1 truck, 1 Taco 1 Tundra and a Turbo-charged MR2, I'd say that I'm fairly loyal to Toyota. I was never treated this way at any Toyota dealership (although I'm sure that many stories abound..).
I came this close to buying a Yaris but didn't like the looks and the medeocre reviews.
Finally - I found an 06 Civic Coupe with 1500 miles on it for sale by a retired navy officer that was tall (I think he found the car uncomfortable after driving his long commute..).
Got a good deal (saved 700 bucks overall), didn't have to hassle with BS from dealer and got a good car to boot. Not the car I wanted, but am getting used to it and feel that it worked out better (for me).
I don't need the cargo room, I have a Suburban and 4Runner; The gas mileage is about the same; the Civic has a little more power but is no Celica GTS.. However - I can swap stock Civic Si parts over from brakes and the suspension and expect the car will be a good handler and be good commuter car for my curvy 35 mile commute..
One thing the Civic does not have is this forum... - This board really rocks, especially for a young one.
Keep it UP!
