Scion seems to target the 60plus group, hit way off target. They did not realized that older Americans would buy fully loaded cars made by Toyota such as the Xb offering low price, reliability and options that were only offer on higher end cars. Of course if you build any of the Scions today on their site prices rise quite fast. Does anyone remember when a supercharger was an option on the TC?

honestly an 'older' crowd would probably not even consider a scion unless some really old folk preferred the low floor to get in/out of the car like wat the xB offered.

the saloon will most-likely have a low roof and difficult to get in/out as it's probably going to be low overall.

toyota, you need to back track and re-do the FRS coupe to sell at $20-22K, or put a turbo in there for $25K, or just give up the entire concept. a scion sedan frs north of $30K will not sell.

One reason why Subaru would go along.

The success of the BRZ underlines one question mark about the future of Subaru that could be both an asset and a liability: its ties with Toyota. Besides designing the sports car and sharing space in the Indiana plant, Toyota owns 16.5% of Fuji Heavy, having doubled its stake in 2008. Further cooperation could give Subaru access to technology and speed its expansion into global markets. The risk, of course, is that the giant company would squeeze the individuality out of the smaller one. The partnership will be successful only if Toyota remembers what makes a Subaru a Subaru. It is a lesson that has taken Subaru a long time to learn and one that it has no intention of forgetting now.

Toyota GT 86 Sedan concept confirmed for Dubai Motor Show next week

-9 November

The official Facebook page of the Dubai International Motor Show has announced Toyota will showcase a sedan concept of the GT 86.
Lately we have been talking a great deal about the possibility of seeing a sedan version of the Toyota GT 86 and it appears this will happen very soon. The Dubai Motor Show is scheduled for next week where Toyota will show this sedan concept, ahead of what will possibly be a 2014 or 2015 market release of a production model.
From what we know so far, the car will use the same platform as the standard model but the wheelbase will be stretched by 3.9 inches (100mm) to increase space for those sitting in the back. Under the hood it will have the same 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine with 200 bhp (149 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque.
There are also talks about a hybrid version featuring the technology seen in the Yaris Hybrid-R concept at IAA back in September. This one will allegedly have 268 bhp (200 kW) and is expected to be around 15 percent more economical than the standard model.
The production-ready Toyota GT 86 Sedan is rumored to be publicly introduced in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show.

i think the production car's going to look like crap with sunken in wheels again.
the frs concept looked decent, but wow the production car looks like crap.

the hybrid version sounds more in line as far as power goes, but with the battery, wouldn't the trunk floor be raised significantly? why bother adding convenience to a 2 door by adding 4 doors, yet inconvenience the users by making the trunk nearly useless?

weird concepts. i dont understand this toyota way of thinking.

Kind of funny this recently became an issue between Toyota and Subaru, but Toyota already has a concept car and plan delivery of either 2014 or 2015.

is that because toyota tossed the subaru's drivetrain and expertise (or the lack of) for this sedan version?
it's like a toyota's f-u car to subaru?

LOL at that rear door. Might as well just make it a suicide door a-la RX8 and make it a 2+2 instead. Or just put a doggie door it's about the same size.

The seats were very uncomfortable to drive for a long time... and the dashboards panel looks cheap.

Consumer Reports

Developed with Toyota, Subaru's first rear-wheel-drive sports car features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic. Handling is super responsive, with impressive agility. In corners the BRZ turns in promptly, with virtually no body lean. The steering is quick and well weighted, with decent feedback. At its limits it understeers more than the FR-S, making it more forgiving but slightly less rewarding, and has a more jittery ride. The cabin is relatively plain, with well-bolstered sport seats, but the stiff ride and elevated noise can be taxing, and the rear seats are tiny. First year reliability is well below average and we can't recommend the BRZ.

Jointly developed with Subaru, the rear-wheel-drive FR-S features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder teamed with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Its low curb weight and optimal weight distribution give it super-agile handling and balance at its limits. In corners the car turns in promptly with virtually no body lean. The steering is well weighted, with decent feedback, and the Scion has a slightly more compliant ride than the BRZ. Inside, the cabin is relatively plain, with well-bolstered sport seats, but the stiff ride and elevated noise can be taxing, and the vestigial rear seats are best left for cargo. We cannot recommend the FR-S due to below average reliability
