signature pic sizes

I am on ultra highspeed dsl, and even for me, sometimes the posts take forever to load.

some guys are putting 200-250k pics into their signatures..

there should be some limit on both display size and file size..

agreed. we are the process of doing a number of other changes, and will add this to the list.

Dunno if this every went into place.

I notice that some people have huge (for signatures) pics. A Lot of times they become distracting from the post itself.

Thanks for the tip

Excellent tip Claymore. Some people love signatures. Other people hate them.

I just went and shut off images.

I guess it is a compromise. It just makes it annoying for real posts that have images in them.

I know other sites limit the size of signature pics (just like how the avatar is limited in size).

If shutting off images/signatures is our only option, I am just curious as to why there doesn't seem to be a limit to the sig pics?

*EDIT* I just had an idea. How about the ability to shut off images in just the signature?

I see.

I guess I will just have to live with some people having large sigs. No sigs means you don't even get the links that people have, which sometimes are actually helpful. No images means that every time someone post a pic you have to click on the link.

Oh well... it seemed like a good idea when sillypuddy first suggested it.

I am not missing it.

Like I said. That will remove ALL of the signature, so you don't even get the text, and I find that people sometimes have interesting links in their signatures.

What I had suggested was that, if you weren't going to limit people on their sig pictures as the OP suggested, then perhaps we could have a fourth option of removing only the pictures in signatures. So that you could still see people's signatures, but not be cluttered by the oversized images.

Im still noticing gigantic sig pics. Not only that, some people have HUGE pics and then a list of mods after. Doesnt this steal site bandwidth?

Some of these sig pics are so big I think theyre actually POSTED pics.

I use a web-optimizing program that does a great job, it dosn't distort the picture enough to notice but man does it ever shink the size down. My sig is only 15kb and it measure up at 600x159 pixels.

As an example I took Mx6GT89's sig and reduced it by half
(I hope you don't mind Mx6GT89 , pm me if you want my to take the example down).
Right click the properties to see the file size. See if you can see a major dif in the quality.

If anybody wants their sig opitmized let me know

nice optimizer.. haha I agree about the sig sizes. I'm not annoyed as much as the file size more than the actual pixel size. I hate seeing a huge sig pic in a thread that just takes over everything, almost as if it were a pic thread! lol I think max size should be introduced.
