A plugin to allow for reactions to threads

Some times all a person wants to do is react. Threads could be less cluttered if there was a way to allow for a few basic emojis to be selected to "react" to threads and comments.

thoughts?

Ideas like this one really help protect forums. I have watched our National level Jeep club slowly move toward a handful of Facebook pages. Being able to interact without always driving a post up the page is really beneficial and helps it lean in the social media direction.

Most other forums Sports and Automotive I deal with, have "recommend" or "like" functions. Which is nice, if you want to simply let a poster know you've read or acknowledged a post but you don't really have much to add or say. Usually the recommends or likes will show up, and also reveal the moniker of who recommended or liked your post.

I'm against "emoji's if only because I think they are a symptom of the decline of language. There was a time when we could write what we thought or felt using "words", the younger generation has been reduced to soundbites, single sentence text responses, and simply inserting animated cartoon symbols to represent what they are feeling or thinking. ( Insert Frowning Emoji Here). This is a losing battle I can't win. But damn if I'm going to support it.

Also most other forums will notify you when someone has liked a post of yours, or has responded to it, or quoted it. This promotes back and forth discussion. With Fit Freak, I have to actively recheck threads, just to see if I've gotten any response or not.

This is why I don’t like the idea.

I don’t use social media though and don’t like it.

You can subscribe to a thread and get notifications. You can also have it that any thread you post on, it subscribes by default.

I guess for clarity.... There are many who are into social media, and forums are going to social media at an alarming rate. It's incredibly sad because it loses the massive database of information that is in forums. Personally I love forums for probably all the same reasons you love forums. So my take is that if you can let some fringe users get that feeling of interaction, it keeps them coming back and even doing less lurking and potentially more participating...

I believe the OP is not thinking that a reaction button would actually post in the thread, or that it would bump a thread. It would be simply a judgement of quality or rating.

Thanks!

Thanks, but where should I be looking for these notifications?

Where should I be looking?

Precisely: and as this is a vBulletin site, there are numerous plugins out there that can be simply "added" for this explicit purpose. My second post in thread highlights a v3 and a v4 option that may be worth looking into.

Give this a try:
Click User CP on the top left.
On the left side of the page, go to Settings and Options section and click Edit Options
Change the default subscription mode
Save your changes

this subthread you're having with yourself is completely offtopic lol.

the desire is to add thanks/likes to posts via the aforementioned vBulletin plugin, or other means, in order to drivedown threads being burried in clutter.

Yes, thanks for clearing that up.

I was referring more to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the like.

I'm not trying to be adorable.
Unless I've had a stroke, the whole forum look has changed. On my computer it's all coming up larger, there are entirely new graphics on the banner on the top. The "Fit Freak" wording has changed, and YES, I never noticed the big bell that now appears near my moniker on the upper right hand side of the page.
