New Tires Recommendation (14in)

Any suggestions on new tires for my Base Fit? I'd like some good high performance all season tires. Also, can I go wider than 175/65-14? Thanks.

Your base Fit rims are 14x5.5" and slightly wider tires would be 185/60-14 or 195/55-14.

The stock size 175/65-14 only shows High Performance All Season tires (selection is quite limited).
195/55 and 205/50 sizes don't show any All Season tires. So that leaves 185/60-14 and there are quite a few good tires in that size.

At tirerack.com (ask Jim for more info).
In Ultra High Performance All Season tires-
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position (highly rated at tirerack.com)
Size: 185/60HR14 Serv. Desc: 82H
UTQG: 400 AA A Price: $65.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: In Stock

In High Performance All Season tires-
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S (highly rated at tirerack.com)
Size: 185/60HR14 Serv. Desc: 82H
UTQG: 400 A A Price: $78.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: In Stock

Bridgestone Potenza G 009
Size: 185/60HR14 Serv. Desc: 82H
UTQG: 460 A A Price: $61.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: In Stock

BFGoodrich Traction T/A H
Size: 185/60HR14 Serv. Desc: 82H
UTQG: 440 AA A Price: $62.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: In Stock

Yokohama AVID H4S
Size: 185/60HR14 Serv. Desc: 82H
UTQG: 500 AA A Price: $48.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: In Stock

--------------
Your choice within your budget. If you want the longest treadwear then the high performance All seasons look good. If you drive in wet weather alot the UHPAS RE960AS is quite good.

Given the odometer issue, you might consider the next taller sizes, 185/65R14 or 195/60R14.

Just a note. There are many other tire choices. I just listed a few of the better ones. you can choose for yourself based on budget or whether you want a Summer tire (more performance and faster wearing) or an all season tire.

For those that want more performance especially in the wet, moderate price and good wear consider the:
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position first. I think the tire size will work in most situations. I would not worry much about speedometer error.
The Fit is a really fun car to drive and good tires just help that much more.
For owners that never drive hard the other High Performance All Season tires of any size should work well. They all are considerably better than the stock tires.

I would agree with the RE960AS. In the testing that we did here I really liked the ride quality and performance of the tires. The sizes mentioned would all work on the car. Bear in mind the wider the tire the winter traction does go down.
If I can help let me know.

Which potenzas did you have?

In 185/55-15 at tirerack.com there are
Bridgestone potenza RE040 $130 each Ultra High Performance Summer tire
140 treadwear A traction V speed rated 17 lbs. 23.1" outer tire diameter
Load rating 81 (1019 lbs)

Usually you choose tires of at least 82 load rating.

The RE-040 gets mixed reviews from owners at tirerack.com
Should wear faster but give decent dry and wet performance.
55 series sidewalls are not too stiff, more for mix of performance with some comfort. This isn't a cheap tire.

Nokian i3 is the direction I am leaning right now, as they get good reviews and they have a lower rolling resistance.
