After a lot of driving over the weekend and with about 700 miles on the trip meter, the average reads at 44.5 mpg and seems to have stabilized there. I still haven't bothered to calculate the actual MPG, but even if the dash calculator is optimistic this is better than I had hoped for. Driving is FUN now. Yay fit!

200 mi on the 1st tank so far . currently at 42 mpg. on the meter but that is fooling around a little breaking it in. I will get seroius on the milage next tank!

I'm still working on my 2ed tank. I got 37 by the MPG gauge on the first tank and the 2ed is running at just over 41. I was unable to do a manual calculation on the first tank because I got my car (BBP MT Sport) in a dealer swap and they did not reset the trip meter when they filled it up. I'll get a fill up tomorrow and then I'll know.

Does any one know if that after market MPG gauge is any more accurrate than the stock gauge? Can the MPG gauge be callabrated?

If you mean the scangauge...yes you can calibrate it. I plan to calibrate mine after the 1st fillup!

On a 285 mile round trip, I burned about 8.03 gallons of gas going between 75-78 for about 85% and the rest city driving. I'll take 35.5mpg any day. I used a different gas station to fill up, and wasn't exactly sure if I filled it up to the same amount I started with, so I may be off.

Ive got a Sport 5MT.

I did notice my mpg meter jump when I slowed down to about 71. I bet I could do at least 38-40 going btw 65-70.

Scanguage average MPG consistently 2 MPG below the car ave. MPG.

I have about 230 miles on car. Ave MPG 41.5, scanguage 39.3. Haven't done a good fillup cycle for manual calculation. Driving is no highway - all city. Commute to work is 4 miles, but rarely do I sit still at stop lights very long - so short stops and starts. I am shifting between 2000 and 2500.

Agree with others. With the guage right there on the dash - both the instantaneous bar graph and the average - you are motivated to drive for mileage.

So on my last fill up my mpg was 38.5 or so computer / 33.0 calculated, which is the lowest I got even though my driving conditions didn't change. And the computer is usually 4 mpg higher.

Well now I have 193 miles with exactly 1/2 tank left. My driving conditions did not change yet my computer says 37.5. But extrapolating to a full tank it calculates to 36.0, and I have the weekend coming up which raises my mpg further.

So my theory (which I've been developing since my last car) is that mileage really varies depending on gas station, fuel quality and where the pump stops filling, given driving style and conditions are more or less consistent.

Make sure to use the same pump every time. The pumps each have a different shut off point.

Onboard computer: 39 MPG
Actual: 34 MPG

My Fit Sport AT showed 33.9 average on the meter; as nearly as I can tell (since the dealer filled it the first time, not me), the actual was about 31.6. This is better than I would have expected as nearly all of this was in traffic and frequently stop and go. On my one freeway run (all of about 5 miles) it was showing well over 40 on the meter at 70 mph. At least so far, my meter doesn't seem as far off as some folks'.

I think you are confused. A scangauge is a seperate device you plug into you odbII connector. From what I can tell, the one in the car is not adjustable. (until someone finds a hack!) hehhe

Nope. Not confused.

I have both. I had a Sanguage II in my Honda Odyssey that I traded in. So I put that in the Fit. I was comparing the average MPG the Scanguage reported (Factory defaults, setup for Fit - 1.5 L, 10 gall tank, etc.) to the average mileage reported by the built in guage on the Fit.

okay here is what i got
i did 400.4 miles on this tank and put
9.191 gallons in. which is 43.564...MPG

on the other hand my dash AVG said 46MPG
so i have a diff of about 2.5 MPG

Hmm... interesting.

I did notice that I wasnt getting a lot of miles whenever I go to Shell. But I get alot more when I use Chevron. This was in my WRX.

I've only used Shell then Costco then Costco on the Fit so far. I've had 32.8 computer, then 29.8 & 30.5 by doing the calculation myself. I'm using Chevron next two fills to see if there would be a noticeable difference.

Ok well if the SGII is anything like the SGI when you fill your tank, go to more then fillup then adjust your gallons used to what the pump says.. that will get you in the ballpark.

Called Honda service about 4 mpg error

Sport AT
Just did my 3rd fill up at 979 miles. Computer says 38.5 mpg, manual method 34.6 mpg. Drive 40% hiway and 60% stop and go in commute. I called the dealer last week to see if they had heard of this issue with calibration being about 4 mpg off and the service guy had no idea or whether it can be re-calibrated. I will call back later to see if more 09 owners are bringing up this issue and see if the 'computer' can be tweaked for avg. mpg or not. Maybe it would help if everyone called. Not a huge deal, but it does bug me.

Another fill up, same mixed driving.

Comp: 37.8
Manual: 33.8

Again, exactly 4 mpg difference. I however did not reset my trip meter on my last fill up last week, thereby not resetting the avg. mpg gauge. I don't know if that makes any difference.

After my fill up today, I went on the freeway for about 5 miles and when I exited, the comp read 46.7!!!

I don't understand calculating it by hand. How do you know exactly how many gallons you have left to use until it is absolutely empty? You don't. So therefore, isn't the avg mpg more accurate? I usually run my tank down to where the needle is on E, a good 30+ miles after the light comes on. So even if I wanted to calculate it by hand to compare, I couldn't.

If you put 9 gallons in your tank, for example, and you have driven 400 miles, you can calculate your mileage based on the gas you've replaced in your tank. You might have 30 miles left to go, but whatever you've put back in is what you have used, more or less. That's the way I figure it, anyway.

Each gas pump is slightly different, and at some pumps, you will be able to put in more gas than you have capacity for (IOW, they are ripping you off). But if you keep track, you'll see the pattern and be able to calculate pretty well what your average is.

I mean, I suppose you could put in x amount and then run it until you run out of gas, but that seems to be a lot of trouble to go to.
