Yes. Nissan was also being sued. I've already said the factory odo is off. Thanks for clarifying.

If it's not recommended, DON'T POST TELLING OTHERS TO DO IT!!! Why not tell people over-revving is fine. "It may not hurt the first couple times, so it's fine."

we are just saying in order to get the most accurate reading
on how many mpg you get you have to fill it up all the way.
if you only fill to the first click at the pump you don't ever
know how much you put in every time. it could vary.
You take what you put in, say 8.7 gallons as the pump says, and write it down. Then you drive however many miles you want to, and fill up the tank again. You take your miles between fills and divide by the number of gallons used. That's pretty much it. You can do this with 1/4 tank of gas in the tank, it doesn't matter.

The amount you put in is told to you by the gas pump. You have to trust the gas pump in any case - you can't do anything about a small variance anyway.

Forcing gas into your tank is doing nothing except making it very likely that you will ruin something in your engine.

I am not saying one is more correct than the other, but I am just trying to playing devil's advocate to try and figure out which method is actually correct. The manual calc. COULD be more correct. The BSM/SGII COULD be more correct. So far, I have not come to any solid conclusions yet.

My Acura MDX has an option to manually calibrate the odometer (through the NAV). Not sure if this is the case with the Fit's.
The Scangauge is not more accurate. But it allows user to input error correction. When I fill up a tank. I can tell Scangauge the actual amount of fuel used. Overtime, the accuracy is within 2-3%.

How one prove the BSM is more accurate? Travel a certain distance and fine out how much actual fuel used?

The manual method is the most accurate. How simple can it get? Miles traveled used divided by fuel used=MPG. It's best to use the same pump every time.

When there is a 10%. Something is not right.

Yeah, that is good that the SG allows for adjustments. Still yet to confirm about the Navi in the Fit's ability to do so?

That is the golden question. How much gas was used? Do you trust the BSM/SG computer or the auto-shut off mechanism at the pump? The mileage will be a constant in both cases.

I'm seeing a declining trend in my mileage over time in my 09 base AT. I thought the initial difference after the first fill up might have been due to the dealer using pure gasoline, or a better quality one than I've been using, but the reslts from using gas at two stations shouldn't be this big. The first tank was 37.3, the second dropped to 35, then 33, 32 and now 26 mpg.

I've had my fit for just over a week now and here's the result from my first fill-up.

Calculated: 35.9 mpg
Trip computer: 38.8 mpg

This is with 60/40 % freeway/city driving. A good portion of which includes stop-n-go on the freeway. I expect the average to drop to about 33 mpg once it's broken in and I start playing with the paddle-shifters

That 26 is very suspicious, though there could've been some variable during that fill up, so I would toss that one out.

32 is still good if your driving is mostly city. If that's your highway mileage I would be very concerned.

Is yours an m/t or a/t? Is your gas E-10 (ethanol blend)? These are very important details.

California generally does not use E-10 unless it is posted. 87 octane is standard.

Keep in mind that not all pumps auto shut off at the exact same place so sometimes your tank may get a little more or less. Averaging these fill ups is important.

Being an environmentally friendly state, I was under the impression that the majority of gas sold in CA had E10. I also thought that CA was in the process of, if not already complete, switching to only E10.

hmm...

My Bad.
You are correct. California began using ethanol in 2003 with the ban of MTBE.
Most gas stations sell about 6% ethanol.

Just filled up my first tank and got about 31.7 MPG, mixed with a bit more city than highway driving.

There are no shenanigans going on. I have an 08 and I have never yet gotten 30 mpg in mostly city driving. We have ethanol in our gas and it cuts the mileage noticeably. I never expect to get over 35 mpg even in highway driving. I just don't. I won't cut off the motor and glide down hills (not that we even have any here). So extreme driving techniques r not me.

I still love my car, but I'd be even happier if I could get 30 in the city.

You don't needed to shut off the motor going down hill to save gas. Anytime your Fit is coasting and rpm is above 1.5K no fuel in going into the cylinders.
