Any MPG reports yet?

I heard a radio ad for an old folks' community called "The Villages," I think it's in FL, but it made me laugh...they mentioned golf carts, and I just thought,
"Be seeing you!"
Just to chime in......
I have averaged 39.1 around town (2 tanks) - and the only trip (400 miles round trip in one day with HIGH crosswinds each way) was 32.4 (75-80 most of the time and hauling a cedar chest coming back).
I'm happy with that.

Most likely accelerating slowly, not stomping on the gas at every light or stop sign. Slowing down when coming up to a light and slowly approaching as opposed to quickly getting up to the line and braking. Just conservative driving, really.
When I had my GTI I used to be able to get 33-35 MPG out of it with 80/20 hwy/city, my wife's Jetta I get about 31, and the loaner Passat I had got me 39 hwy mpg over a couple days. Amazing what you can do when you control your right foot! I never did any of the unsafe hypermilling techniques though like drafting and all that stuff. Far too crazy for me.
One last thing, take your normal route for a tank, and the next tank of gas slow down 5mph less than you were going previously and calculate. The difference between 55mph and 60mph can make a big difference on fuel consumption in some vehicles!

well said. i totally agree with you.
I get around 30-32 in town (30 or slightly less if all stop-and-go type short traffic) and 36-38 on highway (65mph average cruise control, using 10% ethanol gas). my car has broken in already. not bad mileage.
update: forgot to mention: now i have over 3k miles and all figures are hand calculated.

Would be funny if "Rover" showed up when you tried to get away....
. . . with my configuration and driving conditions (at least so far).
I drive 60/40 city/hwy.
Both Fits are/were Sport m/t's.
07 Fit lifetime average was ~37.5 mpg.
09 Fit (after 5 tanks and almost 1600 miles) is 38.4 mpg.
Everything is the same - same driver, routes, driving style.
Of course, the smaller data sample is less trustworthy for the 09 Fit, but that's what I have so far.
A couple of factors that should be considered in my experience so far:
So I can guess that the 09 Fit will do better overall when warm weather driving is averaged in.
I know this information contradicts the EPA ratings, but this is for me. And yes, the built-in FE gauge calculates too high by 3-4 mpg, but it may be useful as a training tool just like the Scanguage.

A couple of factors that should be considered in my experience so far:
- The 09 miles were all driven in cool to very cold weather which tends to yield lower mpg figures
- The 09 Fit miles were achieved using only the current ethanol blend (up to 10% ethanol) which always yields lower mpg figures
- My 07 Fit (which I had for 55,000 miles) was for the most part driven on pure 87 octane gasoline (no ethanol) blend - except for the last 3 months or so. During that time I noticed a definite drop in fuel economy of about 2 mpgs!

thats good info. thanks for sharing.
it's good to hear from people who had both and can make
a good comparison.
Got gas for the 3rd time yesterday:
The MPG indicator for the trip said 35.7 MPG, but the actual consumption was 32.0 MPG, so the indicator was 11.5% high for this tank. This was conservative 75/25 city/hwy driving.

Just FYI, I now have over 4100 miles on my '09 OR Sport MT. For 4097 miles it used 109.6 gallons, for an average of 37.4 mpg (hand calculated). This includes all types of driving, from interstate highways to snow-covered secondary roads in upstate NY. I've stopped comparing the MPG meter to actual consumption, but it seems to be consistently about 10% optimistic. Best MPG has been a bit over 40. Not bad considering the EPA estimate is 27/33/29

I live in Otsego county, about 15 miles north of Cooperstown (the baseball "Hall of Fame" town). But at the moment we are in North Carolina.
I got my best tank yesterday. 39.5mpg
It took a lot of restraint not to mash the pedal. My normal driving habits would get me around 33mpg depending on traffic but this tank I decided to see how much I could get. I don't know if I could do it all the time cause driving like this is so boring
I'm happy with my normal mileage. My commute is 20% city and 80% hwy and my car has 9.3k miles with the original oil still at 30% life. Going to switch to synthetic at 10k and maybe I'll try again and see if I can break the 40mpg mark.
