Has anyone been able to determine if the windows in front of the mirrors are definitely considered part of the windshield? I want to keep it legal and I believe in CT it is 35% on the sides, anything in the back, and only an upper strip on the front. I guess I just want to know what to tell my installer if they aren't sure.

I dont see why they would be windshield. It's NOT attached to the windshield, its part of the side glass. Think of an old car with small vent windows in the doors, its the same thing.

Just got my tint done yesterday. 35% all around except for the windshield of course.

The shop did the front quarter panel glass as well. Should be legal here in Hawaii.

Masafina, i dont see how you handle 35% on the windshield at night in the rain! LOL

I've driven cars with 35% and owned 3 with 40%. I'm doing 45% on my windshield monday, which is much lighter than 35. I travel a lot and it will make things easier during the day for sure. Yeah its illegal here in North Carolina, but its light enough they will never know when they are up close.

It's darker, not lighter. The number for tint is the percentage of light that penetrates. So that 20 = 20% = 20% of the light in the current lighting situation will come through the windows.

Higher numbers = more light coming through.

I would argue that it's not as well, but I had seen it discussed before so I thought I'd stir up some more opinions. I say it's an extension of the side windows, like my first car, a 94 Ford F-150 (ugh), had. Those ones tilted out as well. Some people say anything in front of the side mirrors is part of your frontal view, though. My truck's vent windows opened with the door and were behind the mirrors.

I doubt it would be a problem anyway. I live in the sticks and even if it were illegal, we have no local police force. Only staties cruising through that I see maybe once every two weeks, and they have better s*** to do than check tint. Still, I want to keep it legit and it's the cop's and the law's opinion that matters in the end.
