I'm sticking with Honda knows better. If they want to charge us for synthetic oil they should require it. Even if synthetic gives you 1 - 2 hp, who the hell cares, it's a freaking fit, 117hp. I'll stick with what Honda recommends and if anything does go wrong they can't blame it on me.

tietack will become famous soon enough
FWIW, we just got our first oil change at

4600 mi
11 months (the manual says change the oil at 12 months if the oil life doesn't hit 15% by then)
3 weeks after hitting 20%

Yeah, we could have waited a bit more, but we had an expiring dealer coupon for a $24.95 oil change - and they changed the filter - and included a coupon for a free car wash.

One more thing - on the little sticky they put in the windshield - it says next oil change at:

15%

I'd rather have the extra cash in my pocket

IBJanky got the good point. Fit is the economy car and no need to waste money on Synthetic oil. I still don't understand why people to waste their money on the Synthetic oil unless you have a really high performance car such as Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini......I have been using the regula Castro 5W-20 or 5W-30 in all my cars and never have any issues. On my fit I will just use regular 5W-20, OEM Honda oil filter and change the oil every 5K miles.

It's like when one of the hair shampoo manufacturers added the word 'repeat' to the instructions. Lather, rinse, repeat. It almost immediately doubled their sales.
The oil companies came up with the 3000 mile oil change to increase sales, not to help you protect your engine.
Do what you feel comfortable with, but modern engines running good quality oil can easily sustain oil changes of 5000 to 10,000 miles or more.

The most absurd hype I have heard recently is for "hydrolyzed" water. Hydrolysis involves a reaction between water and some other substance. I really can't imagine what hydrolyzed water might be.

True. Our 2008 Mercedes Benz do no require any oil change before 15,000 Kms.

Hydrolyzed water is water that has added water to it. Stop laughing there are people who believe that stuff. Unfortunately, they're in Marketing.
