Back hatch not opening?

Just got home with our new Fit Sport and we went to unload the hatch and...it doesn't open. It worked fine at the dealership...

I did a quick search and didn't see anyone else with this problem. Did we possibly disable the release on the rear door. We've been going through the manual and we may be going back to the dealer tomorrow...

Any idea if this could be user error somehow?

We've tried unlocking and locking the car using the fob key and the power locks on the drivers door. Every other door responds fine...Sort of taking the wind out of our sails here.

Yeah, that's not normal. If you need to you can open it from the inside, there should be a little hole you can pop in and trip a latch. Take that ish back to the dealer!

try maunally unlocking the door with the key, not the keyless entry. Your dealer might have locked the hatch using the key.

The Sport has no key lock for the hatch.

Weird. If it worked at dealers then should be OK. Years ago I had a similar problem with trunk on my Dodge Stratus. I opened it manually from inside and that cured the problem.

So, did you get it to open the normal way?

Unless you unlock the driver's door manually with a key, or use the master lock/unlock switch on the driver's left armrest or press the unlock button on the remote twice. The rear hatch will not unlock.

Took it in to the dealer...

Turns out there is a piece of plastic in the hatch lock mechanism that actually fell out of place. They popped the piece back into place and the hatch works again.

Mechanic said it was likely just because it is a new vehicle. We'll see how it holds up over the next few weeks.

Thanks for all the input!

Incidentally, on the 09 Fit Sport, there is no internal release for the hatch. The only way to open it is the master switch in the door or the key. If that fails, you are pretty much SOL.

Hmm, my manual says there is a small plastic cover on the inside of the hatch door that you can pop off, and reach inside of the opening to manually unlock the hatch.

Might want to double check your manual, and/or see if you have the little plastic cover. Just looked, it's right in the center, just above the latch itself.
