You should go fishing for a few hours before going home. Tell the wife to throw some halibut in the dishwasher and it'll be ready by the time you get home.
We used to go shopping at the exchange if we missed the get out of the gate by 1600 deadline in Japan. Might as well spend time browsing through DVD's instead of sitting in traffic.
So yesterday I did a half-tank fill up for the first time since I've gotten my car and I calculated 31.5mpg. I drove 165 miles and filled up 5.2 gallons.
The car has 1,300 miles on it. I filled up 4 times before yesterday when the tank is on empty and got 29mpg all 4 times. hmmm, interesting.
!!! WOW !!! I finally reached my goal of getting over 40mpg. I think it has to do with the outside temperature. (?) It has gotten warmer this last week here in WI. (Finally) You know what's weird, . . . on my commute last week I actually drove 70mph for a day, and 60mph for the other 3-days. (I only work 4-days a week, my total work commute weekly is a total of 360 miles. I made it home w/365.5 miles when the E-light came on and filled up 8.8gal. 365.5miles / 8.8gal = 42.5mpg Oh, my fit currently has 16500 miles, 90% hwy.
Thanks for the tip. I got it into photoshop, saved it as a .gif, and ran into a wall at photobucket. Don't want to sign up for it. That's okay though. It's still legible if you hold your head sideways, stand on your left foot, extend the right arm above your head, and then tilt forwards 90 degrees.
Is it possible to get better mileage using the paddle shifters? Like shifting up right before 3500, etc. 'cause I truly love 'em and want to use them all the time.

I use the paddles to downshift when coming up on a stop. I know the MT cars do shut off fuel injection when the throttle is let off while in gear. I expect the AT does the same.
I have a ScanGauge on the way, so I'll see soon!

you are right. I have a ScanGauge now and the fuel does cutoff when the throttle is let off when coasting to a stop. I noticed once it goes below 1000rpm it uses fuel though.
I get about 2 mpg better using paddles in Sport mode over using conventional Drive. Thats based on carefully refilling the tank each fillup to the same level. I can see it at the bottom of the neck.
As proof, my wife always gets better mileage in the same car as I do... except in the Fit. We took a 150 mile trip this past weekend and she drove out in less traffic and I drove back in heavier traffic. She got 30 mpg in D and I got 32 in Sport. My average speed was 5 mph faster than hers.
The difference I see is in Sport there is much less downshifting on hills than in Drive. All those dowshifts costs money.
I just got my Fit a little more than a week ago, and use my Fit mostly for commuting to work - 30 miles each way, 60 miles a day. I've been really curious about gas mileage and filled it up last Friday around a half tank - 223 miles, 5 gallons (4.998 exactly) = ~44.6 mpg. The fill-up before that was 164 miles, 4.26 gallons = ~ 38.5 mpg. I'm more than happy with the gas savings I'm getting and will get the rest of the year.
I drive about 95% highway in the mornings and evenings just following the flow of traffic around 60-65 mph.
Rusty, good job! I commute about 45 miles every day, mostly highway, and have been getting 33-34mpg. Friday I had to go down to San Antonio (187 mile round trip) and got 35.6mpg, but had the AC on, and went down a VERY hilly highway to get there. Plenty of hills and downshifting to 3rd at times.

My first "full" tank from the dealer, stop and go driving to work, mostly city, got only 23.3 mpg. Put in another 8.975 gallons this morning. Still breaking in the car and probably zooming a bit too much. A few days with the A/C since it was near 100 in Houston, Texas (hot as Hell) and I have not used the cruise control yet. 2008 Sport with AT
I expect my 2nd tank mileage will be better ? This is still much better than my Ford F-150 SuperCab.

Ops! I recalculated my mileage (distance divided by gallons) for MPG and I now figure ~26.34 MPG for my 1st tank (City driving with some A/C use). I figured 239.7 miles divided by "10.8" gallons (a full tank) but I filled up just a few miles after I got my low fuel indicator light. I read the Fit has a 1.7 gallon fuel reserve and I got 8.975 gallons of gas @ $3.699 per gallon. So I figure 239.7 divided by 9.1 gallons (10.8-1.7) for a not too bad 26 MPG. Not too bad for getting a Fit broken in?
Driving the Fit is FUN! I love my Fit and saving gas

61, you'll be in your 'break in' period for most of the first 10,000 miles. I'd relate that when I had an Insight, it took 6000 miles before I started seeing average economy numbers that I expected. My fit has ~9600 miles, and has slightly increased economy over the last couple tanks.

I had my first fillup today. The nozzle clicked of at 8.3ga and I added another 3ga (I could see the gas in the filler tube). I got the car with a full tank but I know the dealer didnt fill the tube up so I did the math for 8.3ga. 29MPG (dont remember the fraction). Mostly in town and short 3 - 5 mile hiway trips. Also includes a double feature at the drive-in movies. It was raining so I needed to have the car running from time to time to clear the windows of fog (0 mpg doing so). On a scale from 1-10, 10 being the most agressive, I was driving about 5.5 for most of the tank.
Nine fill-ups under the belt and averaging 31.4 mpg. 85% city driving. Good news is that I'm trending upward with the same commute (32.6 over the last 5 tanks).
