Mileage reports: Automatic transmission (5AT)
I find this really wierd...A few posts up a guy said his worst tank was 32, and right above me the guy said the best tank was 27? I average in the 30 usually, and it doesnt vary much. I wonder why Fit are so inconsistent when it come to each vehicles MPG?
Curt hitch, JDM map lights. That's it!
I have got gas in Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Ohio. I've used BP, Chevron, Speedway, Jr. Food Mart, Minit Mart, Shell, whatever...
I've said it before - maybe I got one with a rubber tank or something!!!
I was playing around with my phone yesterday, while filling up, wanting to document this stuff - it seems odd to me too, so here are pics of my gas gauge and the pump:

Hah, were you standing by the car the entire time while refueling? Nobody walk up with an empty gas can while you weren't looking. Kinda hard to put 12 gallons into a 10 gallon tank, unless the tank fill tube is 2 gallons and you were on fumes!
I had a weird one also. Got 41 mpg on a tank. Been averaging low 30's to high 20's up until that one. Following tank was back to 32. Same gas station. Only difference was the passengers. Most of the time I'm chaffeuring my co-worker @ 220 lbs to and from work. That week, I was carrying my family @ 200 lbs total to and from shopping. Spread the weight around and the mileage increases???

lol we've been through this one a few times... there is nearly 3 gallons in the neck from the tank to the top. unbelievable, but try it. after the pump stops, keep slowly squeezing in 1/4 gallon at a time (it'll keep stopping). i filled it all the way up and got nearly 600 miles on a single tank once.
Well, for me it turned out to be the city driving killing the mileage (way more than I think it should). I never put anymore gas in the tank after it cuts off for the first time so I'm pretty sure I'm not filling beyond 10.9gal total.
1st tank (starting out with previous "city" miles): 159.6mi / 6.693gal = approx 23.85mpg
2nd tank (all driving to VT from Wayne, PA): 344.5mi / 8.815gal = approx 39.08mpg!
3rd tank (around the Green Mountains & Stowe + partial drive home): 333.3mi / 9.333gal = approx 35.71mpg
Maybe Honda should have stated (at least for the auto5) 23 city/40 hwy. Might have been more accurate. I had a 2001 Civic HX with a CVT that never got below 30mpg and weighed about the same as this car. I once got just over 40mpg in that car and it was rated 35/40.

Serious milage help needed!
We just hit the 1000 mile mark and things are not getting better. Every fill up so far has been 20mpg! That's it.
Conditions: AT Sport, 80% city/20% highway, maybe 40% AC use.
Not ideal conditions to be sure, but these numbers for mpg are ridiculous. I love Hondas (owned a CRX, Civic in the past). But we just gave up a 11 year old VW Golf GTI which was getting 23-25mpg under the EXACT same driving situation.
One more question, since this is my first new car purchase... Our dealer has been woefully unhelpful. All they said was, "use premium gas" now go away. Two tanks of premium gas later, no change. Do I try dealing directly with Honda at some point?
Help

Don't use premium gas. It is a waste of money with no improvements.
3 gallons in the filler tube? Yeah, I can see that as the tank is under the cabin and takes a long tube to get to it vice being under the trunk. I've been filling the tank at the slowest fill rate that the pump can go by itself and two stops after it stops the first time (make sense?). I use this practice normally to be consistent.
One thing that I've been trying is to slowly roll the throttle and let the car catch up to the speed instead of opening the throttle all the way to what it would normally be for the speed at once. (yeah, it doesn't make sense, but I'm only on my 4th beer!) In other words, kinda like granny driving. As I put on more miles, I know what the rate of acceleration is for normal driving and I don't push the pedal down to get much more. The worst scenario is to floor the pedal and then release pressure when the car gets to the speed you want. Roger that?

My fit has over 3000 miles and from day one has been a winner in the mileage category after several tests the dealer did an offical gas mileage test. My fit came out 19 mpg in town and 41 on the freeway. Honda of america said that if it checks out mechanically there is nothing that they can do to fix it. I am very frustrated and will probably end up trading in the car within the week. I could easily get that mileage in a car with a V-6, even my 98 vw beetle gets better mileage and is more zippy.
I failed to mention that my fit is a storm silver 5at sport. I have all weater mats and a rear trunk mat... they may be for sale. Make me a offer and I will check the postings before I trade it in this weekend. Luckily the dealer is giving me a pretty good deal. I will either be moving to a MT fit or a MT civic sedan.
Coming Soon... you are so right! The actual mileage is not all that good... put ONE PASSENGER in the car and the mileage goes down significantly. And that just goes to show that Honda messed up when they didn't put a more powerful (or tourqy) engine or even a DOHC. I would fix that if I could afford the $20,000, or maybe a tad less, for a new K24; tranny; install... Then I should have bought an SI!
But this little car is fun to drive; people still ask about it when I'm out and about! Not to mention the fact that it is very utilitarian... All I need for the car right now are ralley wheels; wider tyres; Eibachs or coilovers. I have everything else put on the car to make a ralley car.

How did the dealer do this test? Can you provide details? I'd like to do this if it the cost is right.
They claim to slightly expand to cool the air in the intake. Bzzt. You can't go through a thermodynamic cycle and have less heat at the end. Just by altering the pressure they are making things worse, theoretically, without active cooling. But I suppose it is still more free flowing than the stock intake, so it doesn't matter too much.
Hi . . . about 50/50 highway/city (the slow way to work has quite a few long stretches with few lights) and a few hills as I get out towards work. (For you Orlando folks, I work in Clermont, and there are hills out there!)
I do tend to drive conservatively - speeding up slowly (but dropping down a gear when I need to pass on the freeway) and slowing down gradually. I also try to use the paddle shifters to get up to 5th as soon as I can.
This is with the a/c on most of the time.
I'm at a tad over 30MPG at 30.38 . . . 216.4 miles on 7.123 US gallons.
This was my second fill up/first MPG calculation.
It's a nice change over the 2001 AT Accord Coupe!

it will probably go down after it is broke-in... I have the correct tyre pressure; light foot and my Fit has settled in to a 26mpg mixed here in the Atlanta area. The highway is good but the AT is rather disappointing in the around the town area in which it has no expertise. I should have bought one this year and opted for the MT. Now they are in abundance around here at the Honda dealerships where I am living. PM me if you want a number to a dealership; they are MSRP
