Mileage reports: Automatic transmission (5AT)
Honda sent me a letter saying I should bring my car in for a change around 3.5 to 3.75k miles. I just followed what they told me to do. The first change was free.
I wasn't sure how long the break in oil was supposed to be in there

The warmer weather + break in + new oil helps.

Just watch your oil life % gauge when it get to 15-20% take it in usually about 7-7.5k miles. I am surprised your dealer did that. Money greedy dealer I guess.
Yeah probably. I think the gauge had my oil around 40 or 50% at the time it was changed.
For paddle shifter users only!
I recently started to upshift using only the paddle shifter, very short upshifting, 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4 and 4 to 5, never letting the tachometer go over 3K RPMs (if you let the automatic transmission change the gears for yourself, the rpm will always exceed the 3K RPMs), the gas mileage (city of course) has improved, about additional 50 miles for the very same fill-up... but after years and years of using the traditional AT, now using the paddle shifters is a real challenge in terms of adopting a new driving style, I still have to remember to change the gears with the paddle shifters and not letting the AT do that for me... I use the paddle shifters in D only, so when I've reached the 5th gear I let the AT drive my car including the automatic d/shift...

In the city, using this system, I get about 50 kms (32 miles) more per tank than letting the AT do its own procedure...At the beginning I used to forget to use upshifting paddle, 24+ years with no such system, but now I think I'm getting it on a daily basis, the problem will be in 5-7 years when I decide to buy another car, not necessarily Fit (maybe no Fit anymore) and no such technology anymore or just the high-end vehicles having it... now I enjoy the paddle shifters only!!!
That's a new TV commercial, the one with the red Mitsubishi Lancer, cool music, I like it very much, paddle shifters included

You do not save much but you save something which... why not? This is for city only, open road you set the cc on your preferred cruising speed and enjoy the beautiful cows off the road

spreadin the love
first 40.5MPG couldnt thought it could get any better ... then one tank later 43MPG !!!!
utilized some hypermiling techniques like popping it into neutral on downgrades, drafting trucks (use to always do this but this time i knew the "sweet spot"), etc
it was like driving with the force, when you have the objective in mind you can absorb all the subtle inputs and know how much throttle to open to just maintain speed and what speed is most efficient under those conditions
aiming for 45MPG next time

I have no explanation for this, but it turned in 42.4mpg (us) last tank -- 378.8 miles and 8.935 gallons. That's like way better than anything I've ever seen out of this car. If only it did that all the time? About 18.5k on the odo now.
Does the warm weather really help?

I finally got over 25mpg this weekend, but it was 90% highway driving on a trip from Memphis to Dallas and back. I hit the 36 mpg mark. That was nice. Still getting between 20-24 in my normal city/highway mix though, that's disappointing.
