My 5 A/T Sport

I had my Fit for 6 months now and I average 27 MPG all the time. Becasue I like to hammer it. I did all hwy driving on a tank once and got 35 MPG. So I know the Hwy mileage will be there.

Buddy got one too and is gettin a bit better MPG than me. (drives like a grandma).

He told me to try Shell V-Power 91 octane. Tried it and now im consitently getting 28.5-29.5mpg !!!

Went back and tried a couple tanks of ARCO 91 and BAM! right back down to 26.5 again !!

Working it out, with increased MPG vs. upcost of 91 comes out about even but i can go further on a tank
careful with that analysis...Sell premium has addatives, and their low grade does NOT. The additives, not the grade, might be why you get better mileage.
Try Chevron, where all 3 grades has additives. See if your mileage is high again. Also note that mileage fluctuates, since when the gas pump tops off is not consistent. Always get more data before being sure.

Unhappy 17 Mpg???

After about 4 months and 1500 miles I'm getting about 17mpg. Almost all of my driving is stop and go city driving... Granted, I like to get it up to 30-40mph from stop sign to stop sign (3-4 blocks)... But 17MPG?

This is in D on a sport AT.

Should I go to the dealer?

Ethanol reduces the fuel efficiency!!! You have to find gas stations that carry ethanol-free gasoline... in Ontario (I don't know about the rest of Canada) the liberal government has made it mandatory for all gas stations to carry 10% ethanol gasoline on regular-only gas... Sunoco has ethanol in all their grades...

25 mpg in a super-congested city AND no way I can drive it like an 80 yo granny just to save on mpg!!! Open road, cruise control on 75 mph (60 mph speed limit in Ontario ), and I get 33 mpg...

I have almost 7k on my fit sport auto. I use the paddle's every time I drive it. I've lately been using Valaro which I think bought out Mobil. On my daily commute I've been getting very close to 300 mile to a tank. I use 93 octane also. I notice better fuel economy with the higher octane and the car performs much better too! My daily commute is stop and go with some hills also and its been getting that good of gas milage. I also don't drive it slow. Its impossible because a lot of the roads I drive on are curvy and its just fun to drive on them. I was getting really bad gas milage with sunoco. I would get about 230-240 mile to a full tank using their 89 octane. I would say use either Valaro or Lukoil since both of these used to be Mobil, which I think is the best gas. I also heard that shell isn't to bad either! Never tried it yet!

In Ontario, 91 and 93 octane do not have any ethanol in it, only in the 89 (regular) is mandatory, also every pump MUST have posted clearly the amount of ethanol that's how I know about this stuff... first time you stop for gas take a look at the pumps, 89, 91, 93 and see if they show the amount of ethanol blended within the gasoline... you might be getting better mpg because you're using high octane gasoline (no ethanol I think) but, unfortunately you have to pay more for the 93 one so I have no idea if you really save any money on gas... regardless, if you feel that the car performs better with the 93, stick with the premium gasoline as much as you can...
Just out of curiosity, I've seen lots of Valero TV commercials (I have DishNetwork at home), who's the owner of this company, I mean is American or foreign again like Citgo (that freaking Venezuelan dictator), Lukoil is run by Russian Mafia, Shell is Dutch... always when I drive in the States I get gas off the interstates, Flying J, Love, etc. way cheaper than in the city, for instance I know that BP is very expensive if not the most expensive gasoline out there...
Have a good week ahead!

You're OK for the AT Sport, 33-35 mpg on roads with no traffic stops, of course you can get better mileage by driving like a granny, never over 60 mph, and during night hours with no cars on the road, but are you 100 yo?

I can't figure this car out. Sometimes I accelerate slowly and get blah mileage, and sometimes I zip around and get great mileage.

My last two tanks were 37.92 and 37.85 mpg, and I was cruising up to 75-80 on the freeway. If it were only like that all of the time. Must be a tail wind... [sport a/t]

Thumbs up 4500 miles so far

And I'm getting 31-32 mpg in the Sport AT. About 90% of my driving is in highway traffic (stop and go) or city. No long drives over 25 miles yet and I tend to go easy on the throttle, keeping it around 65, since I bought it for the efficiency. I borrow my brother's Audi S8 when I want to go fast.

Regards

I am just over 2,000 miles on the FIT. I am sure MPG will come up as I get to 10-15k on the car

Roughly 5900 miles right now.

First 3.5k miles before first oil change = disappointing, 22-24 MPG in city and about 32-33 MPG highway
Lowest = 20 Highest = 34

After 3.5k miles oil change = better, 28-29MPG city, usually 35 MPG highway
Lowest = 26 Highest = 38

I live in B'ham AL so there's a ton of hills on every possible stretch of road. I'm normally stuck in 3rd or 4th pulling up hills for a good while before 5th gear on the auto can take over.

Why did you change your break in oil so early? The break in oil should be kept in the car for at least 5k miles

I believe Valaro is an American company. As to who owns it, I don't know. But, I know so far its given me the best gas milage. So I think I'll stick with it. Also going to stick with the 93 octane. Car definetly runs better with that in the tank!
