Mileage reports: Automatic transmission (5AT)
Good mileage so far.
Well i have about 1300 miles so far and here we go.
1st tank from dealer. 31.4mpg
2nd. 34mpg
3rd. 36mpg
4th. 31mpg
i commute about 200 miles a day and on open highway its great. i probaby do about 80/20 or 85/15 hwy/city driving. on the last tank i did lots of city driving(errands) and still good. i did a few pedal to the metal moments on a stop light. also this car runs nice at 85-90mph too hahaha (note to self: be safe). i have a sport AT. im happy since my last car a was a 95 4dr eg civic dx. averaged anout 33mpg with 210k miles on the car until it got totaled. lovin my VBP Fit.

You shouldn't overstuff your fuel tank. A percentage of the 'extra' fuel (over 10.8 gallons) you put in will load the carbon canister and not be used effectively. The best method is probably the SAEJ398 (Jul05) filling procedure.
1. Set nozzle on max until first shutoff.
2. Wait 5 sec.
3. Set nozzle on min until shutoff.
4. Wait 5 sec.
5. Set nozzle on min until shutoff.
6. Done.
This would help reduce variability in MPG numbers also.

Most recent tank was 23mpg in my AT Sport, but that was basically ALL city and I'm down to 10% oil life (almost 6000 miles) so it's time to change the oil. Hopefully that will get it back up to the 27mpg I usually get for all city driving, otherwise my mileage has been getting worse and worse
Highway driving still yields a decent 33 to 36mpg though.

the numbers I have are consistant with what people are posting on this site.
I have a 21.5 mpg 25 mpg and one 33 mpg.
I dont think it is worth my time to tell the details. such a small car should get at least 33 mpg. My mother owns a toyota automatic that gets 40 mpg around town..... I am getting 8 to 10 mpg less than I did with the base fit manual I had owned.

This kind of mileage makes me re-think my purchase, even though I absolutely love everything else about the car. The main reason I bought the car was gas mileage. I don't think any other car comes close to the price, features or quality of this car, though, so it's not as simple as just buying something else.
This is just me typing out loud:
As a comparison, getting 35mpg while driving 15,000 miles a year and paying $3 a gallon would cost you $6429 for 5 years. Getting 25mpg would cost you $9000. That's a difference of $2571 for 5 years, so that bumps up the Fit's out-the-door price of $16758 (in Oregon) to $19329 compared to if it got 35mpg. At that price range other cars with better gas mileage are within your budget.
That is ~$42 more a month you're paying for the 25mpg fit VS 35mpg. Assuming my math is right.
I just don't like the idea of selling a car with only 6000 miles on it that I wanted to keep for 10+ years. That would probably cause me to loose more money than the low gas mileage!
I love my AT Sport Fit, just not the mileage

who knows if it the trannie loosesns up after a while? I mean, no one here has a NA fit for more than a few months (< a year.) Besides, the 25 MPG, inner city traffic sounds great... my accord only got 19ish... and it was a MT. On a side note, you probably could sell the fit and get most if not all your money back.
...have a AT in my FIT and, yes it gets worse milage as compaired to the MT. In my area with the traffic and except for spurts of speed the average mph on both surface streets AND I75 - I85 and 23miles one way per weekday: anywhere from 22.3 to 34.5 miles per hour. Regular mileage from fill up to fill up is anywhere from 25.5 to 28.1. On a road trip it can average 'only' 38.6 to 41! It is the 'average daily commute' that is a bit dissappointing to say the least. I will be posting my mileage when I get a little time >;
rgrcmrn
it would be more convenient if we had D1, D2, D3, D4 AND D... one time when I first got my car I was going about 65 and downshifted in my AT like my Accord and I thought the transmission had broken: LOUD thunk! Why Honda gave us a D3 is a bit of a ??

... gas milage not what I wanted
It's a good thing that the Fit is fun to drive... the base AT is smooth and works well. I have over 9600 miles on it and I did a good break in period when I first got the car. No bad oil usage. I use Mobile 1 but with that synthetic the milage has not changed. I will post the last month worth of mpg and I think that it will tell the tale. The way the milage is calculated by the government is going to change, so I hear, after Jan '07. Probably a little bit honest. And I do not believe 410 miles on a tankful. The one thing that helps my mileage is higher speeds with LOW rpm. Today my mileage was poor at low speeds: 86.3 miles at less than a 1/4 tank. But went up, after better highway speeds, to 125.6 miles at a half-tank. D3 is better around town in a hilly area like mine since it gives you better torque since the engine is above 3500 rpm. I still use only D in my base and after getting used to the "drive by wire" started getting better mileage. But no where near 30 to 33 mpg as advertised: BUT that is just a "guideline" eh?!
BTW, since I use Mobil ! do I jus' change the filter every 5000 miles?? Is not the synthetic last a lot longer vs regular oil?

I'm consistently getting 25-29 mpg at this point. Only 1500 miles on my Fit.
29 MPG on the average is about what I get on my AT Sport. Have about 5400 miles on it. If I take it on a short, interstate highway trip, I've gotten up to 40 MPG, but no better. This is 'just the facts' on my Fit. This mileage is OK to me, though - because I love this car !!!!!!!

WOW! Should i sell it?
stop making yourself crazy - i have been there and done that since i got my fit in may of this year. city drivers with automatic transmissions are as the above poster said are "getting owned".
the dealer will tell you he gets better miliage then you. honda will tell you the gas you use is not good enough. people here will tell you to do and idle learn test. then you will hear that you take off to fast and brake to hard, then they will say to coast to a stop. before you know it you will hate that car you thought you would love. it happened to me. i even thought of trading it in. you can track all my posts. i was desperate, it was my mission in life to get better gas miliage.
THEN! i read last months issue of consumer reports. there it was in costco just waiting for me. it was a great read. BUT the best part was were it said automatics in city driving average 23 mpgs. I was so happy to read that.
why? cause it meant that it wasnt me or my driving style or my gas or anything i was doing. Just meant that either i move to Jersey or stay in NYC. i am staying in NYC. i am driving my car now the way i want to without worrying about my milieage. this is the way it is. it was a big fat lie. but honda isnt alone. the lie holds true for the yaris and the other cars like it. the standard was the way to go.
all i can do right now is wait. its a 15,000 car. if i could have afforded a hybrid, i would have bought one. in a few years maybe i will trade up.
unless your computer light comes on, honda will do nothing for you. all they know is code. thats it. they lie like a rug. good luck and know its not going to get any better - i am close to 7000 miles and it seams to be getting worse.

All highway driving still surprises me. I've been up to 41mpg with 4 passengers driving from Sunriver, OR to Portland, OR. It's the 25mpg around-town that kills me, since that's most of the driving I do.
