roenyc, you definitely have something wrong with your car. Man, I had 185 miles on my half tank yesterday. I have 279 miles and it's about at the quarter tank mark, more or less. I will report later on after I fill up again. I guess I did good in getting a manual at this rate.
Out of all your posts, I don't remember seeing you say if redid/had the intention to redo the Idle Learn Procedure, or were driving in sport mode or drive.
With your MPG I would have thought you would have been the FIRST to try the ILP. Even if the ILP is hit or miss, it's worth a shot in the case it does help. Also, I remember you saying you shifted at 4k - that either means you're pushing hard on the throttle or your auto is shifting late. Either way, put it into sport mode and manually shift it at 3k yourself.

I'm almost embarassed to say this.....but today the gas here was @ $2.46/gal. I'm sure it all works out in the end, though. (For example, pay scales are probably higher there than they are in SC)
I just filled up tonight, 288.9 miles @ 8.27 gallons = 34.93 MPG!!!!!!! woo hoooo
I drove about 10 miles east out of San Diego on my way to Laguna Mt and filled up at the Shell station there. I think that had something to do with is. Lets wait for the next fill to know for sure. In any event, I HOPE this is not the last of it. I've been getting 30MPG avg.

I'm just glad to know that my car has that kind of potential and that theres no mechanical glitch. I can only wait for the full break-in and keep those driving habits.

You have a challenging environment to drive in with San Diego's traffic and mountainous terrain. (I know it well -- I am a native and lived there from '74 to '95.)
I think the Fit's reported gas mileage problems are a combination of a/t, ethanol-blend gas, poor tire inflation, and bad driving habits. I'm not saying there couldn't be any mechanical problem, but with Honda's known reliability and their history with the Fit and this engine I highly doubt it. I've also owned 2 Japanese-made Civics with 1.5l engines that were best cars I ever had. The Fit reminds me a lot of them, but with newer technology. I'd have to say that they were mechanically better than my Toyota.
I have a base AT model and getting 36 to 42 mpg most of it is highway too. now if i go hard on her she give me 30 mpg for me it how i drive my FIT if i keep her at 70 on the parkway the gas is great i know when i go 70 to 90 i get 30 or 26 mpg my SUV was getting 15mpg so i am real happy at 30 mpg too it was $125.00 a week in gas now it $48.00 a week i do 600 miles a week to work. so the fit was right for me
Just when I thought my Fit finally kicked in after 2 out of town road trips getting 37 mpg with my AT Sport, just this week, the mileage started getting crappy again for some weird reason. Before the road trips, I was generally getting 30 mpg in the mostly city, part freeway driving. But this week, the mileage has been BAD! The needle on my gas meter is almost halfway and I'm only at 130 miles! Not good. Let me say, not all the bad mileage for AT Sport drivers is due to lead footed, aggressive drivers. I baby my Fit and try not to accelerate fast, letting the car coast at long as possible before braking. But it still isn't delivering the mileage. What gives? I called American Honda this week for the first time, and they gave me a pre-rehearsed list of factors that might cause the poor MPG. No help at all. Of all the cars I've own, this one is probably the most erratic and unstable of all. Even my old 1994 Toyota Tercel is getting better mileage!
^^ Actually 1001st
I finally made a spreadsheet and calculated my average mileage over my first 6 tanks (around 1400 miles, and around 50 gallons, I don't have it in front of me). My average so far is 28.xx in my Sport AT. Not amazing, but I expect the average to get around 34 in the next few thousand miles. And really, most of my miles are city driving, and a tank or two has been VERY spirited driving, so I'm happy!
Better than my Volvo's ~16mpg.
