Mileage reports: Automatic transmission (5AT)
I think severe recommends 3750 miles, but that is truly if you are using your vehicle as a taxi, or delivery truck, or abusing it. General, city, stop & go driving is still considered normal use. 3k oil changes are just too often. I used to do every 5k which was easy to remember, but with good oil and new filter, going 7-8k is no problem. Rest easy!
Been trying tanks full of 92 octane to see if there is a difference enough in mpg to pay the extra cost.
87 octane = average 32.5 mpg
92 octane = average 34 mpg
I will run a few more tanks of 92 octane (highest i can get around here without going to a "special" gas station) to see if my average climbs any higher. For now, the 1.5 mpg isnt really worth the extra $.60

Ok Wtf
We've got these Fits well broken in now (20K+) and with the onset of winter (and a nasty one at that) the MPG's have fallen to exactly what I got with the Matrix's...does it turn the fuel that rich to accomodate the cold start? We showed a few tanks in the 35-38 MPG's range during the in-between weather (no A/C no cold starts) and then poof...crappy mileage! The Matrix's do not vary that much between seasons either...so...WTF?
I too run Mobil 1 5W-20, and 38/35 front/rear, and about 80/20 highway/city. My last 13 tanks (2007) average is 34.21 mpg. California, sport A/T, regular gas, 16.3k miles.
Just went over 11K...
Blaze Orange Sport AT : I have been keeping all my receipts for gas and have had the tripmeter reset on each tank. I fill up about every 7-8 days and that is usually 270 miles per tank, and is about 9 gallons. I was no math major but that is a steady 30mpg. Hwy 50/ City 50

Still haven't gotten any milage that was spectacular. I did change the stock air filter at 10k to a K&N and I went from 25-26 mpg average to about 30 on the last 3 tanks with the same driving conditions. It could be better from the slightly warmer weather though. Always something to confound the situation.
I recently got exactly 40MPG driving 'downhill' from the continental divide in Wyoming and Utah on I-80, cruising at 80-85MPH. I was running the 85 octane gas that they sell up in the mountains. The car now has 4500 miles on it, and it started the trip with around 2000.

On the very first tank I got from the dealer I got 307 miles on my car before the fuel light popped up.
Filled up 9 gallons worth of fuel.
So 307/9 = 34.1 MPG.
I do about 50% Highway/50% City.
To achieve this MPG I drove extremely conservatively since I've not yet broken the car in. The key to my good mileage was accelerating very slowly, never going past 3000 RPM, maintaining a steady speed of 70mph on the freeway and driving without AC 100% of the time.
Never used the paddles and always drove the speed limit.
Hope that helps!

well, my last 3 fillups have proven to be the best, at just over 30 mpg. i've been doing more highway driving and the weather has drastically improved (no more snow or cold), which may account for the better mileage.
i'm yet to attempt the paddle shifters, and i'm almost at 3,000 miles.

are you rounding? Keep all the decimals. They can make a difference between 32 and 30 mpg.

Lifetime Values - High MPG: 40.29 Avg. MPG: 34.23 Low MPG: 30.24
I commute to work 80miles a day, ~60mph, pull a 7 mile 6-7% grade 1 way. All driving styles, conservative, aggressive, high revving, low revving, also city driving. All on 87 Octane from Union 76 (most of the time). Oil changes at 5 mos or 5k with 10w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic.
Ok i think that fills out most of what people ask about.

finally an improvement in MPG
Ok 37,000 miles on my 9 month old FIT Sport Auto. I get 26.5 -27 consitently. 90% highway driving at 80-90mph.
Buddy got one too and is gettin a bit better MPG than me. (drives like a grandma).
He told me to try Shell V-Power 91 octane. Tried it and now im consitently getting 28.5-29.5mpg !!!
Went back and tried a couple tanks of ARCO 91 and BAM! right back down to 26.5 again !!
Working it out, with increased MPG vs. upcost of 91 comes out about even but i can go further on a tank
