Mileage reports: Automatic transmission (5AT)
Fuel usage in a Jazz CVT
The roads i travel have a lot of stop start motoring, some steep hills, but also some hiway. The following is the usage for the last 2 tanks: 558km using 34.5 liters and 550km using 34.09 liters giving 6.18 liters per 100km and 6.20 liters per 100km respectively. This translates to some 45 miles to an English gallon or approximately 38mpg American. The car has done about 6k km up to now.
I feel quite happy with the milage so far.
It is a 2008 1.5 liter VTEC

first tank of gas started with 5 miles on the tank when i left the dealer we made a 210 mile trip to auburn alabama. Arrived at the gas station in auburn with 210 miles on the car. 32mpg running 85-90mph. Then later in the week with 500 miles on the tank i drove to Houma, La. where i leave to my job offshore. Only managed 32.6mpg on that tank running 70mph. I'm sure these numbers will improve over time. Regardless much better than the 13mpg i was getting in my big blazer.
Ever think about going a different route or traveling at different times? If you know you are going to idle for more than 12 seconds then turn your car off. Don't use A/C. Drive like you don't have brakes and accelerate moderately slow.
Fit Sport AT. Have only about 1400 miles on her now. Took a trip to York PA from Buffalo NY. Got 37.7 going down and 38.5 coming back. Cruise control on and let car downshift on hills to maintain either 72 in the 65 speed limit of 62 in the 55 speed limit. Air conditioning on the whole way. There are some sections were its city type driving but mostly highway type driving. But fairly hilly.
On a side note iam suprised the manual transmissions are geared so much lower than the auto version. At 70mph my engine is turning about 2600rpm. From what i read here the manual tranny is way up in the 3000+rpm at 70mph. Suprised the manual trans cars get as good or better than the AT. After all the AT has a lock up converter. Must be the drag of the AT.
Either way iam happy. My 2001 CRV that this replaced did 25.1mpg on the same trip. Only had a 4 speed auto and turned about 3100 rpm at 70mph though.

My last tank was my best, 410.3 miles with 9.11 gallons. 45.03 mpg. I always fill up the same way at the same pump to maintain consistency. My mods are rear seats removed, skunk 2 lowering springs, front underbelly pan (modified BMW 7 lower engine cover).
Im shooting for 50 so I got some more mods I will be trying. We'll see what happens but at this point I think its doable.
