MPG Report: What do ya'll think?

Hey Everyone...Just crossed 3000 miles on the ticker of 2009 Fit and over the last tank I monitored my mpg for the first time for real. I did 341 miles and then filled up with 9.45 gals. This gave me 36.08 mpg (guage showed 38.7 mpg). I have an automatic trans and during this tankful of gas, I drove:

-approx. 50 miles in Western NC mountains with 3 other passengers in the car (490 lbs, including me)
-approx. 30 city miles
-approx. 120 miles under 60 mph highway
-approx. 141 miles over 60 mph highway
-approx. 30 minutes warmup/ idling

What do ya'll think? Good or Bad mpgs. Thanks!

thats pretty good. keep it up and you'll work
your way up to 40 mpg in no time.

not bad at all. it's hilly here in SC/GA.

It is hilly here. I drive 67 miles one way to work on I-85 and it's a constant wave of small hills the whole way. It kills gas milege. Of couse rolling along at 80-85 mph doesn't help either.

I don't know how everyone is getting so great combined gas mileage. At 3800 miles so far my experience is that the fit is awful in city driving. It brings the MPG down so badly. My numbers are city: < 27-28, highway 40-42 MPG. That's with manual shifter and careful driving. A BMW 325 which is a bullet compared the fit gets similar city MPG. So I am kind of disappointed.

27 28 in a MT? Check your tire pressure.
In a AT i can get 30mpg+ in city.

I have a 2007 Sport man. trans that is averaging 37.87 MPG over 18,000 miles. During the whole time, I have only had two tanks under 30MPG (29.19 & 29.88) but both were for extremely small fill-ups (88 & 121 miles). Not counting those two anomalies, my lowest mileage since August 2008 has been 37.52 MPG.

I'm usually upshifting before 3G, and I'm never in a hurry to get to a red light. Although I do a lot of city driving, very little of it is in rush hour traffic. That makes a huge difference, especially if you spend much time waiting for lights to change, or have to creep along in a lower gear on the freeway every day. Other than that, there is not much you can do, especially if, as you say, you practice "careful driving."

Also, your mileage may start improving a little after around 12-15,000 miles, but we're talking maybe 1-3 MPG, at least it did for me.

Here's hoping you start getting better mileage.

thats an easy answer. you have a lead foot.

I used to have one also.
It's very hard to retrain yourself not to push
so much.
You'll get it eventually I hope.

I don't think I drive aggressively (no excessive acceleration or going above the speed limit cutting in and out - none of that) also my wife drives it quite a lot and she is not a lead foot

either. I also used to have a 2.0 jetta MT and that car was great in city as well as my sister's 1.5 civic MT. I just don't get the horrible city mileage. Tire pressure would lead to bad highway MPG too and that's not the case.

I have an 09 Fit Sport MT and the first couple of tanks of city driving (when I was really easy on the car) was 35mpg average. After that I was getting 33mpg (with my heavy foot). I'm happy considering my last car was only getting 17mpg!

if your rpms are a about 3k then you have a lead foot.
try to keep your rpms under 3k and you'll see your numbers
increase.

let's say I do have a lead foot ...Why would I have to worry about my driving habit with driving one of the smallest cars on the US market. That totally defeats the purpose. It's not a v8 musclecar now is it? I'm getting 23-24MPG city I don't believe (no matter how you drive) that anyone in the US is getting 350 miles to less than a tank in their FIT. And then why would some people on other post complain about the small size of the tank. Most cars don't go farther than that in the city with a full tank.

I guess I will have to start driving like an 80yr old
