Waxing the easy way.

Tape the car. It makes it easier to work in sections, and keeps the wax away from places it doesn't belong, especially with an orbital buffer.

Wax on the black plastic trim takes 20+ washes to come out if it isn't wiped off right away. Getting it out of creases can be just as tough.

very good idea. Just time consuming. How long did it take to tape? 20-30 minutes? Bah....I guess I'll do it in a few months when I feel like taking 6 hours to detail again.

LOL thanks

The easiest way to wax is to take it down the road to the car wash and let them do it,, but, if you feel like it I have a BOM Fit you can do.

^^go to the carwash and pay someone for swirl marks? no thanks...

+1 on tape for the black trimming. i just ues a flat head screwdriver with a wad of microfiber cloth rubberbanded to the tip incase i get wax in the spaces between the panels - works like a charm.

Is any painters masking tape ok to use? Is there any brand that isn't so good?
The bottle of Meguiars 21 Synthetic Sealant I ordered came in the mail today and I want to do it correctly!
thanks

Honestly I have a roll of painters tape but I dont find it necessary as all the sealants and waxes I use do not stain trim. It takes me about 45 minutes to tape an entire car but I stopped doing that. When you remove the tape youll have dust lines there and that small area wont have wax on it. But hey if ya got the time go ahead. I usually only tape the black plastic trim when using my buffer. And take it off before sealing and waxing. Just be careful and youll be ok.

wow eff that...

i use a synthetic sealer which leaves a white residue but for the wax i just use something that doesn't leave that white residue

i wax by hand so that just looks like too much work

You should be fine with any of the blue painters masking tape. I used the 3m stuff but im sure you dont have to.

I personally used a Meguiars Pure Polish and Black Magic Wet Shine Liquid. No need to use a cleaning polish on a cars first wax.

akkk... taping is so 1990's.

to wax the easy way, use Prima Hydro while you dry your car. work out last NXT and out perform any polymerwax when it comes to ease. lasts 4wks on a dd parked out doors 24/7. you can even use it on glass, plastics, rubber. wont turn white.

btw, on my hobby cars i use my random orbital and carnauba wax. i dont mask it off either...

Can you buy the Prima Hydro at any of the big box stores or only through the internet?

The subject heading is totally misleading. Why not just find a wax that doesn't stain the trim?

I'm planning on switching to P21S cleaner, and collinite wax. should get no stains, and no masking required.
