if it smells like burning rubber, just make sure something isn't touching the pipe and burning. i thought it smelled more like burning marshmallows or sugar actually. if it smells like burning rubber i'd check to make sure nothing is really burning. otherwise, it's normal for a new exhaust.

It is normal. Most exhaust (especially stainless steel) come with oils on them and in them to protect them. I will burn off eventfully. Most of the time you will see white smoke for the first couple hours.
