Whoa I really appreciate your comment, cuz I was thinking the same thing! I just got mine installed and I've used it for a few days, and I was just about to fiddle around with the Hybrid Mode. I'll stay clear of it. Thanks

My pleasure calvinpark. The manual also says that firmware updates might not be compatible, so if everything is working good, it might be best to pass on any updates. It would suck sooooo bad to have your ipod not work with the device you just spent a lot of money on plus intall cost (65 for me) just because you updated the firmware. Doesn't suck as bad as having your ipod killed in hybrid mode though.

Cable

Cable is mentioned previously in this thread. It is called a stereo
mini pin plug cable. I believe it is also called a 3.5 mini
stereo cable. Radio shack has them.
see here

RadioShack- Audio/Video Electronics, MP3, LCD TVs, GPS, Digital Cameras, DVD Players, Accessories search mini stereo cable 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male.

Yes, I got one at Target for under $10 and it works famously. Just remember not to leave it plugged into your ipod when you aren't using it, b/c it will drain the battery down to nothing.

Otherwise--perfect.

Anyone have any experience with iCarKits.com?

This is what they're offering-
iCarKits - iPod Car Adapaters - 2007 Honda Fit

trying to find a more cost effective way to hook up the ipod...but then again, that Radio Shack cable might work. This is a possible xmas gift from my hubby so I'm sure a cable wouldn't cut it.

Buy the Pioneer iPod Interface Adapter and other iPod video accessories at circuitcity.com

If the sport comes with pioneer radios won't this work ?

Could be, i have no idea. I doubt the wiring from a 5 year old element will be the same.

Cool MOD installed.

Hey guys, I just wanted to chime in.
I've been reading these forums and decided to go with a Dension mostly because I am 1 cheap b@$t@rd.

The story is that Dension pulled out of US (reason unknown) and is now doing distribution from Canada instead. Retailers such as BestBuy have offloaded entire stocks of the older generation iceLink that they can be had for less that $40. Mine is an iceLink Plus I20-HONDA-R3 (Pink/Orange Box) and has no mention of compatibility with the Fit or Jazz yet works like a champ...well so much as the older iceLinks are worth anyway.

So here are some confirmations,
One: IT WORKS!!!
Two: The iceLink menu and setup is impossible to use because...um...I don't know what the "select" button is. Also, CD-TEXT is not supported.
Three: Only 5 presets will be available, these being your first 5 (I have like 20), I just asterisk * the five I want along and sync. The 6th "preset" is actually the Setup menu for the Dension interface card. Since I can't see the sub menus because I don't know what button "selects" an item, I'm at a loss what magic is out of reach.
Four: Sport model uses the AUX button to activate iPod/iceLINK but will do nothing if no iPod is in the dock. I've confirmed that the IceLINK and the SPORT's AUX jack works well together. If an iPod is inserted, as well as a mini-jack is in the AUX jack, then the Honda Headunit will simply toggle between AUX input and IceLINK input when the AUX button is pressed. Nicely done Honda.
Five: OH MY F#*!&% GOD is it hard to remove the head unit. If you're cheap to a fault or have unsatisfied masochistic tendencies, be my guest. If you bought your Fit because it was prudent not merely affordable, then have it done by someone you don't like.

With the money I saved, I spent it on a mod that I thought would be great. "Thought" being operative. Anyway, we'll have to live with it. For your amusement *drum roll* DIY GONE BAD.

I say again, this went bad. The modifications didn't fit back in (no pun) so I'll just have to save pennies for the next attempt. But, everything did work fine. Note to Dension IceLINK first timers, any new iPod seems to need to initialize requiring insertion with car (interior power) on, then turning off the ignition completely off and on again. Your Dension is now "married" to your dock...so it would seem hot swapping ipods will not work. I've tried a 3G iPod then a 2G Nano and it required the initialization but didn't test 3G after the Nano.

Spare Fit Fuse Cover ~$25.00
Dension Nano 2 adapter ~$5.00
Blood sweat and tears ~Grrrr!

I bought it when i got my FIT in June of 2006, I have had nothing but problems. This Wednesday I am getting a complete Alpine audio system put in. Buy a cheap one from somewhere else. I have had to go back to the dealer about four times because it comes out and gets disconnected. Not worth the time and money. It is later than September but for anyone else thinking of getting it, at least from my experience, don't.

Fit Ipod Hookup

O.K... here it is..
Sorry I didn't chime in earlier to offer up the way. I wasn't here yet.

A very good, cool, high quality way to hook up your iPod to your Fit (Sport) is to use the Monster iCharger !

Notice : Sleek Black Color, Blends Nicely with Your Center Console, Monster Logo on Charger Lights Up for Cool LED Effect, in Red, Green or Yellow depending on Charging Status.

Plays well with :

Coiled Black Cable of iCharger Allows Placement of Audio Cable inside of Charger Cable, to Implement Clean, Single Cable Style Installation. Prevents Cable Strangulation Hazard ! !

See my avatar for a dark pic of the system in action. I'll post some pics later of the actual install setup. Just in case you can't make out what you see, that is a bottle of water lit up blue by LED illuminated cupholders, with the Monster iCharger glowing green in the upper left, with the iPod in the top middle area sitting in the pocket ahead of the cupholders.

The Monster iCharger hooks up to the dock at the bottom of the iPod, which gives a far superior sound output. What is also superb about this setup is that you do not have to adjust the volume on the iPod at all. The iCharger sets a constant volume output level which is unaffected by any ipod volume control changes on the iPod itself. This setup also virtually eliminates any potential noise to come out of the iPod audio sound.

The actual audio cable, (1/8" mini headphone male/male) which you do still need, hooks up to an input on the dock connector end of the charger cable, then you plug the other end of the audio cable into the aux audio input jack next to the charger socket. You can feed the audio cable through the charger cable, which is coiled, which makes for a "one cable" appearance to the total setup.

It's selling on amazon.com right now cheap, if you search for "iCharger" it should come right up, or just click on the link here. Ignore the firewire type model. My background is audio, sound, recording, synthesizing, and I would highly recommend this Monster iPod accessory to add to your system for its quality, integration and simplicity. It is clean.

An added bonus is that the charger Monster symbol is LED lit, displaying a different color depending on the status. So now you can have another cool light in the center console of your Fit.

The only possible obstacle to using this right off, is if you have your iPod in a case that has alot of meat around the actual dock input of the ipod. With my case, I just carved away the excess to allow clearance of the dock connection, using an exacto knife. I've used my charger for a few years now, transferred it from my previous car to the Fit now.

You can make a nice clean installation, so that all you see is a cool LED lit charger sitting in the jack, and a short length of cable coming out with the dock connection cable to hook to your iPod. In my Fit, I've set it up with just the right amount of length to hook up to the ipod and sit it in the pocket in front of the cupholders, and tucked the rest of the cable away just above the center console. You can leave it hooked up all the time, since when the ignition is turned off, the power to that area is turned off.

I also set up an additional 12V input socket at the rear end of the center console to connect my cell phone charger, to be able to run both at the same time.

I hope this makes many happy iPod users. The Monster iCharger ! No substitutions, please ! !

If you have something different than an iPod, sorry to leave you out here. Peace ! e.b.

Ipod cable

This has been the best Ipod cable that I have found. All you need is to plug this into the cigarette lighter and use a short 3.5mm cord from the power to the aux jack. I used this in my Element for a few years and it works great in the Fit.
