Any autocrossers??? - Page 2

I run my Fit with my specs as my signature says in Porsche/BWM club of america events at a local police academy and I've also done a couple SCCA events at the dogpark. I fit feels more than capable with some decent sports tires. It was more the driver holding my times up than car. By my third event I'm now only about 2 secs behind miatas with a bit more experience. I expect experienced autocrossers will have minimal to no trouble coming in with times comparable to equal spec Mini's.

I believe they should, as they are a factory option, as opposed to like you said the Fits are a dealer option and not allowed.

Either way, there is a ton of aftermarket support and product development already out there for the Mini as theyve had a head start (in the US). I could be wrong but I think taking out the Minis will be an uphill battle.

Unforunately we currently dont have any Minis that run HS in our region, a slew of GS but no HS. I still looking forward to trying the Fit though.

Mini Cooper S is G-Stock. Mini Cooper is H-Stock.

Uphill battle? It'll be fun. I'm still nervous bout this drive-by-wire thingy though.

It feels responsive enough to not be a big issue.

Hmmm... If the HFP wheels are dealer installed then the Fit guys are gonna be in trouble. I did a quick search and found no "good" tires for the 15" wheels. I didnt even bother looking for the 14" size.

It is true that the Mini guys have a head start, but the Fit has been out for a while, so getting stuff for the fit shouldnt take too long.

Actually there are plenty of good Rcomp tires for the Fit in 15s. Even if you cant fit a 225 Hoosier or Kumho 710, both of those tires come in 205/50-15 and are readily avail.

You can use any size tire, it just has to fit on the factory sized wheel (in stock classes that is).

depends on how strict your tech is...
My wheels said Honda on them so they probably figured they were factory.

What are you worried about with the drive-by-wire? After my "enthusiastic" test drive, I think the Fit will be a super fun car to autocross. Also, my other car (WRX STi) that I autocross is throttle-by-wire, and it's been running for two full seasons without a hiccup.

I can't wait to autocross our Fit! I don't know if the Fit could run with the mini's at nationals, but I have no doubt it could run pretty well on a regional level.

I've only driven two cars w/ drive-by-wire throttle - 04 Camry AT and 04 RAV4 AT. Throttle-on and throttle-off in these two cases are a bit "laggy" compared to conventional cable throttles. With the auto trannies and the nature of these cars, it didn't really matter to me. But for a manual tranny and autoxing, the potential lagginess doesn't sit well w/ me. Perhaps the Fit really doesn't have this "problem"? I know the Yaris does.

The base MINI comes with 15x5.5" rims which can fit a variety of tires for H-stock autocross. Best size is 205/50-15 and best tire is Kumho V710. If you use Avon Tech Ra they will last longer but won't be as sticky.

Optionally the base MINI can compete with 16x6.5" rims and 215/40-16
Kumho V710 tires for best performance.

The MINI Cooper S comes with 16x6.5" rims and optionally has 17x7" rims that can take 215/40-17 or even 225/45-17 tires but the choices of competition tires isn't good in 17".

For the Fit in H-stock the Kumho V710 in 205/50-15 would be the best compromise for sticky rubber, good fit for the stock rim, and moderate cost with moderate wear.

In Hawaii we barely see any Fits on the street let alone at autocross.

So for now I'll keep my MINI
